"After dealing with many disappointing contractors/handymen, Charlie & Richard were a (shocking) breath of fresh air and worth every penny. This company takes pride in their work and these two men truly want to do the best job for their customers in the long run. They do not cut corners at all and have extreme attention to detail. From the beginning, Charlie was organized, responsive and detailed in his quote. Over the course of 2 weeks, Richard and Charlie were consistently punctual and took great care to be respectful of our home (always used drop cloths everywhere they walked, swept/cleaned up after themselves daily & used the proper machines/filters so dust wouldn’t end up all over our house). The painting and drywall repair came out beautiful! I only wish I found this company sooner, but we will definitely be hiring Charlie & Richard again!"

"I moved into a 2 year old house to immediately find water seeping into the basement. I found some signs of it around the baseboard moldings. I called a couple of companies, one of them Drycrete and another, an interior french drain company. The french drain company wanted to jack hammer my finished basement and install one of their systems, an additional sump pump, and a ton of exterior work for pump discharge. That was going to cost 15-20k. Drycrete on the other hand, walked around the perimeter and noticed the obvious - foundation cracks. Those are cheap to fix, but not a guarantee. In any case, I decided to start from the top down, cracks first, 20k french drain later. The process for a crack seal is pretty straight forward and if I wasn't as pannicked I would have attempted it myself. They used Poly to inject into the crack and it worked. The basemet is dry. My sheetrock is open and the wall is still bare from the spray foam along the crack lines. I constantly measure the moisture content in the baseplates and it's slowly getting back to normal. But the moral of the story is - whatever company you bring on to a job site, whatever sperialty it is that they do, that's the solution they will likely propose to you. Drycrete did a good job as far as getting the right diagnosis. If I had to change anything about my experience with Drycrete, maybe I woould have requested for them to put up Zipwalls around the work area. Drywall and concrete dust went everywhere. Overall, good work y'all."

"Do not hire MJ Eisenhauer Plumbing. Mike sent an apprentice to do the work of installing a toilet. The apprentice that came to install the toilet did not shut off the water to the main at the house and ended up shearing off the pipe to the upstairs bathroom. He completely flooded the 2nd floor bathroom causing over $4,000 worth of damage to the house. When Mike arrived he told me they were not responsible. I had hired Mike for jobs previously and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but this is not the first time he has been extremely rude. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Bay State Remodeling for a project at my residence. The project was adding an office, finishing the space above my garage as well as adding a mudroom. The project was started by another contractor who, after finishing approximately a third of the job, disappeared and would not communicate with me. Worse they had left a very large mess of construction debris in my yard. I reached out to several contractors to attempt to get the project finished. Upon hearing the project was already started by another contractor, most of the new contractors were not interested in engaging in the work. Bay State stepped up and immediately helped me feel at ease that the project was now in the hands of true professionals. Upon reviewing the prior contractors work they discovered several issues and explained to me my options. Jamie was instrumental in the initial onboarding of the project and assisted me with picking finishes. Andreina was my contact throughout the project and kept me informed on progress and what work was scheduled in the coming week. Marcio was frequently on site and was extremely helpful in explaining my options throughout the project and sharing his expertise from what he had seen on other projects. They were also very helpful in spotting small issues where some finished work could be improved and quickly brought the team back on site to address. All of the workers that were on site were professional and despite this being a multi-month engagement, the disruption was kept to a minimum for my family. The professionalism of the Bay State team was exemplary, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone in the future."

"We had a great experience with Lisa and her team. After spending years talking about refinishing our basement, we met Lisa and was convinced we could do another home renovation. The process went smoothly and with relatively few issues. Lisa worked with us to design a home office, teenager space, and workout area. From there, her team started and finished on time, decision points were communicated clearly and flexibility was given when needed. They have a selection of cabinetry, flooring, and finishes to choose from, which actually made decisions easier. When we ran into a tricky electrical code, Lisa's team came up with a solution that was even better than the original design. We are happy with our basement and its multiple uses now (we never went down there before except to dump stuff for storage). Highly recommend Custom Basements."

"Steve Gallagher and his son did a tremendous job on replacing some exterior trim of our house. Long story short: Steve is a craftsman in every sense of the word, and his attention to detail is unmatched. We needed some rotten wood exterior trim replaced, and chose a vinyl product for longevity and durability. Steve met with me prior to the work, and inspected the areas I felt needed attention. Steve quoted me a project price in just a few days, and was able to schedule the job in about two months time, well within my timeframe. The work took about two weeks, and because I was around the house, we had daily chats about the work, and if any other items came up, Steve was unbelievably helpful in getting all the work done with complete attention to detail and superb craftsmanship. We could not be more happy with the result, and will definitely look to Steve and his son for additional work as needed. Very highly recommended."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in North-Attleboro, MA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
