"It went exceptionally well! Hivenx Basement Finishing Co. delivered exactly what I was hoping for—and more. They worked within my budget without cutting corners, and the quality of the work was outstanding. I especially appreciated how flexible they were when I wanted to make custom additions during the process. The entire experience was smooth, well-organized, and stress-free, and the finished basement exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t be happier with the results and highly recommend Hivex for anyone looking to transform their basement."

"The work was done in a professional manner. They were friendly and willing to answer questions about the work. The company handled all permits and scheduling the county inspector to come and clear the job. It completely cleared up the leaking problem in the basement, and the foundation is good for the rest of the house's live. They cleaned up really well, there was no dust problem, and in the area they dug a trench, they even reseeded the lawn with grass seed. We were very happy with the work and feel like we are safe from any more foundation problems."

"John Andrews and his entire crew always acted in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner.  They arrived when they said they would and performed the work in a quality manner.  Where John was concerned and wanted to ensure the quality of the work was done properly he would do the work himself.  He wanted to make sure that the cuts and angles were correct on the railings up the stairs to the front porch met his expectations, so he did that job himself.  Before accepting final payment for the work, he requested we inspect the work ourselves at our own speed.  We had some questions about one portion of the job, and John came out and inspected the work and did additional work and requested we re-inspect and approve the work before he processed the final payment.  There is no doubt that I will call AndrewZ to schedule our next work.  I will be calling John to help us design our walk-out basement remodel in the future."

"<p>Outstanding contractor. Is very professional in bathroom remodeling, works with a minimum of interaction, recommended and used quality materials. Kept work area clean and covered floors, very nice to work with.</p> <p>Jose Sosa is very professional, and he knows his craft very well. He does the work himself with other employees, and lets you know what he is doing before he starts.</p> <p>Best price out of 8 quotes, helps you get the best bargain for materials. I highly recommend Sosa Ceramics Ties for bathroom remodeling. James </p> <br />"

"We found water damage in our finished basement the end of September.  After removing the wood paneling we found a crack in the foundation.  We called up Seal-tite and they sent out Mark to give us an estimate.  Mark spent a good deal of time informing us of our options which we really appreciated.  He also gave us other tips that were not associated with what he could do as well as things to look for, which I thought was an added bonus.  <br /> <br /> After getting some more estimates we realized that #1 their price was on the lower end of what we were hearing and #2 we were impressed with Mark's knowledge and sincerity.   We listened to Mark's recommendation and decided to get a sump pump installed on the back wall of our house as well as a membrane along the entire wall to prevent more water damage.  <br /> <br /> The workers arrived on time the day of installation and put down plastic from the doorway all the way into our basement.   We were told it would only be a 1 day job and that's exactly what it was.  The estimate from Mark was exactly what the final bill was, no added charges.  I was very happy with the customer service and the work."

"They worked well with us to come up with a design plan for the basement and throughout the whole process to make us happy.  The price was fair and they did good work.  The crew was friendly, nice, and accommodating.  The only negative thing was the time that it took to complete the work.  It took a little longer than we were promised.  The basement looks good."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Banco, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
