"I received an estimate from the owner, Connor. My property needs a lot so he was taking care of a few things. New gravel in my driveway with slight grading to decrease sitting water. A retaining wall to help prevent flooding in my basement. Filling in dirt where a swimming pool once was, & replacing gravel under my shed where the groundhogs had gone wild. He also built up a part of the ATV track my son wore down over the years. He arrived on the day he said he'd be here. He worked efficiently. He was professional and respectful of my property. Reasonably priced & when I asked him about providing tree removal, he was honest when he told me he didn't have the equipment required to remove trees near power lines. I appreciate the honesty. I'll be hiring Connor to do other outdor projects in the future."

"I Had a driveway, a year and a half ago installed. It is still solid and in great shape. Tony and his daughter came out recently and steel coated it. Tony and his daughter came out the other day and straightened out some edges for free. Amazing family company and stands by their work. I Highly recommend this company for your next paving project. If considering a paving company. Blacktop has over 50 years in the business."

"Excellent! I can't say enough good things about this project. We live in a 1920 Dutch Colonial, our walkway was falling apart. Miguel gave us samples to look at that would match our front Brick porch. The brickyard he sent us to allowed us to bring samples home to compare. He ordered what we wanted and within 4 days began the project. He came early in the morning and stayed well into the evening and completed the job in 2 days from demolition and removal of the old walk to the installation of the new one. He seeded the lawn that edged it. We selected him because he a patio and driveway and walkway for our nextdoor neighbors. We've lived here since 1974 and people trust the contractors we use. We highly recommend him and we always like to hire local owner operated businesses. For an additional fee he planted 2 trees in the front of the house. We are very satisfied."

"Chris and his crew were excellent. The extent of Chris' knowledge was quite impressive. He made me feel like I was finally in good hands by showing and thoroughly discussing everything he found. During his inspection he checked every possible issue that could be causing the problems. He explained the repair processes necessary and showed me as he was doing them. They were courteous and cleaned up, leaving my property cleaner than when they arrived. They were very polite and more than willing to do whatever was necessary to help me complete the project as I wanted. I can not thank Chris and his team enough and would absolutely recommend their services."

"It went wonderful! James responded same day as I requested a consult on asphalting my driveway. He set up a visit the next day to quote the work I was requesting. The quote was fair and he was very knowledgeable. He did act he was a know-it-all, he spoke to me with professionalism and respect, not once trying to "sell" me on the project. I accepted his quote, and 2 days later, he and his awesome crew showed up, at the time he texted me he was going to show! We went over the project again, and they began their work. The crew was great! They were professional and respectful, along with the personal touch from just speaking with them in between tasks. They cleaned up any mess that occurred on the road accessing my driveway. The work was beyond satisfactory, and I even told them the 3 words that first came to me was "amazing, professional, and I was appreciative". The job took approximately 4 hours. And I am extremely happy with my new driveway! James also explained care and do's and don'ts, plus he explained that the driveway does need to be sealed within a year, and did not try to sell me on having him do this job, said to have any company do the seal. Obviously I will be calling him to do the job!"

"Greens Excavating & Paving prepped a pole barn pad for me. Few trees had to be cut down, stumped, and removed. Area was graded and stone was put to grade. They handed the job with a professional attitude and completed it in a timely manner."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Bangor, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
