"We had foundation piers in our crawl space and 3 pumps with drain gutters installed in our basement in October. They had to come back in July because water was seeping into the basement from another area. They scheduled the additional work quickly. Conan and Charles added the additional gutter to the existing gutter and did not have to put in another pump with outside drain. The work invoice was adjusted to a lower cost, and we are satisfied . Time will tell if our basement stays dry. Wish they had done all the gutter work originally , as it is noisy and dusty , Thanks , especially Conan!"

"As to the pressure washing in spring, the exterior was sandy, gritty, and salty after over a year of brutal ocean weather. Michael did an excellent job. He showed up when he said he would, and sent pictures of his arrival, including the equipment he was using. He also sent us regular photo updates of the progress of the job. In particular, the north-facing side of the house gets mildewy, due to lots of moisture and minimal sun exposure. After the pressure wash, all the "green" was gone from that side of the house. Also, since it had been six years since the exterior was painted (and not the best brand of paint at that!) the painted surface was a bit fragile. Michael was very careful not to "blow the paint off the walls" and he preserved the integrity of the outside paint, while getting rid of all the grit and sand and grime.
When we hired Michael again in the fall, based on our pressure washing experience with him, to paint the outside of the house, Michael came and did a walk-around with us, pointing out some rotted cedar siding, places where the house was improperly caulked, and where water had infiltrated the trim and was rotting from the inside-out. He gave us a very reasonable estimate and he stuck with it.  We have a few other rental properties in our hometown and we are very particular about the type of paint we use. This particular brand was very hard to find down here, but working with our paint consultant back home, Michael and I managed to find a merchant who could deliver the brand, the grade, and the color that we wanted. Michael had to travel far to pick it up, but he knew what we wanted and he did not disappoint! Again, being long-distance clients, we care very much about being able to work with somebody who is responsive and reliable. Michael finished the job when he said he would and he did an excellent job. Whenever a decision had to be made on materials, or the process, or if there was any other decision at all that had to be made along the way, Michael was on the phone to me immediately and we worked it out. I was impressed with his approach to his customer, which was "You're the Boss!" He is professional, always on time, friendly and trustworthy. He respects his customers' wishes. What more could you ask for?

"Wow where to begin. Patrick gave me a estimate that was to say the least half the price of competitors. His helper and Patrick were very kind and met the specific needs of mine. They were very careful to not leave any mess or debris behind. They painted and remodel my bathroom and there was not one run or blemish in the paint they did. They finishedA day and a half earlier than scheduled. I have already recommended to family members to get some work done as well. If you want a great deal with great customer service and excellent results do yourself a favor and give Mr. Patrick with Ohana home repair a call. You will be very pleased. Mr. Austin"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Barco, NC

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
