"Moises and Edward and the crew did a repair of my facia. They told me to get PVC so it would last longer. They also repaired cracked walls and ceiling and painted. They did perfect work. Did so good I kept finding more work for them because it looked so good. They are so polite and respectful and right on time. Also they are very fair with their prices and don't push for or more work. I now consider them friends. Don't waste you're time because you won't beat their prices. They can do anything too. Bathroom, kitchen, floors. I will hire them again they are the best."

"

After this experience, I will only use Classic Construction again in the future. This contractor and every one of his workers/employees were prompt, courteous and professional. They worked together as a team and there wasn't a single day where they were late or left any debris or mess behind. I didn't hear a single excuse and there were no surprise costs added anywhere along the way.

We continue to get compliments from everyone that visits. This is by far the best experiences that I ever had with a contractor!

"In every case and at every stage Nathan Straut was responsive, communicative, helpful, prompt and reasonable both in cost and dialogue.  He offered informed and honest advice that stressed my best interests not his.  His estimates are thorough and accurate and his prices competitive.  The guys who have worked for him have been friendly and do quality work, and are very aware of Nathan's extremely meticulous standards.  The work is very high quality.

The home he has worked on for me is a beach house built in the '30's that was relocated by Hurricane Sandy.  The main structure was intact and placed on a new foundation and from that point I have been rebuilding.  I am a very handy amateur (semi-pro, I like to think) and have done much of the work myself (electrical, plumbing, construction, deck building, siding, roofing...) but time=money and some jobs were out of my league.  This is a family home my children will take over and I was looking for a contractor who would be around for them to rely on and utilize and I think that's who I've found.  Nathan strives to create a rapport beyond the professional relationship, genuinely engaging with my teenage and adult children and chatting about his family.

The jobs:
Install two new double hung windows and six foot sliding door, re-framing as necessary..  Nathan and I discussed a number of possibilities for replacing a door and two windows opening onto the deck on the ocean side.  The original door was a regular 36 swinger.  I wanted to retain the character of the house but saw potential for improvement as well.  Nathan helped me see that a slider would open up the view and allow more light into the house while retaining the spirit.  The work was excellent and the results terrific.  In the process of opening the walls and setting the new door Nathan discovered something that led to....

Structural Rehabilitation - after severe trauma from Sandy the little house had opposing walls that were leaning out.  Nathan called me at work with the discovery and said that while the walls were open (the wall opposite the original job once had a fireplace that was torn off in the hurricane; I did a quick framing/siding at the time until it was time to replace the fireplace).he could bring the walls back in and strengthen the house.  Not something you put off to later. I braced myself for the number.  Ridiculously reasonable for the work he did (not much material cost associated, but it was well under 1K).

New Construction - replacing the old addition to the house, torn off in the hurricane.  Two rooms, a large hallway 8x15 and a bedroom 12x15.  Foundation was already there and not included in estimate or Nathan's work, had it done when the engineer put the house back in place.  As a handy but not wealthy DIYer I told Nathan to "get me to Tyvek" and do the roof.  Meticulous work done on time, and when it looked briefly like the whole thing was going off the rails due to a permit issue Nathan was incredibly flexible about the timing and was on the phone with me while at the permit office, emailing with the clerk in real-time to enable the glitch to be worked out and the work proceed.  A very stressful situation and Nathan's responsiveness really helped.

Kitchen remodel - not a big job, just hang some paneling and install six cabinets, counter tops and a stove.  Took exactly as long as I thought, very nice work.  Nathan really helped us see some different possibilities for the counters and my wife is very happy, as am I."

"The old roof had 2 layers which was torn off and replaced with GAF shingles. Ice and water shields were installed where needed and copper flashing was placed around the chimney. Deck Armor was used as the underlayment and a ridge vent was also installed. My roof was 1850 sq. feet in area. The crew was efficient and the job took 2 days to complete as I also had a "plastic" roof over my deck replaced which was a separate job from the main roofing job and not part of the $8410 price. The original contract allowed for 5 free plywood sheets to be installed if needed. Unfortunately I needed 36 sheets to be replaced. Each additional sheet cost $60 which changed the cost of the job significantly. When I complained to Rich (the owner) he took off $200 which effectively lowered the cost of each sheet to $53. At Home Depot each sheet costs about $19.45 if not bought in bulk. Of course the labor needed to install the sheet drives up that price dramatically. My personal opinion was the price per sheet still should have been under $50 but on the other hand Rich did not have to lower the price at all. In the end it was a fair compromise. My only real complaint was they neglected to clean the gutters. When I inspected the job after a rain I found over 3 dozen nails, wood splinters, and roof fragments in the gutters. Overall the job was done well but the real test will be if the water and ice shields will stop a leak in my kitchen window area when it snows and the durability of the roof itself. Finally when submitting a review you must answer yes or no to whether you would hire a company again. In this case my answer is really maybe depending on whether the estimate of the project is more competitive."

"We hired Trutek/Plainedge Contracting, led byJim Eisinger and William Cann (Caan)  to do a home remodel. We did a basement finish and master bed/bath addition to the existing 2nd floor.  All I can and will say about them is DO NOT HIRE!!
We live in a modest home and had modest dreams about renovating it before our wedding in 2011. Construction started in March of 2011 and didn't get finished until April 2012! 'Nightmare' doesn't even begin to describe our experience. We were lucky that our home wasn't completely destroyed by Hurricane Irene and the crazy carpenters that came and half assed everything they did. I don't think they could divide by 2  to find the middle or use a level, there isn't a straight wall in the house! It has taken me 2 years to even begin to want to write about the experience and that is only because Kent Buell from Kentstruction came in and saved the day! A good friend of mine said he did some work for her and she was extremely happy. So we went with him.
I gave him a B for cost, because by that point I couldn't recognize a reasonable price and we were so desparate we just went with a good reccommendation and put what was left of our money in his hands. What I have learned is that, Kent is, above all else, HONEST! He means what he says and he does it! He came over and inspected himself. He gave us written estimates down to the nail. The carpenters he sent were neat, clean and respected our home. He is knowledgeable in TofH ways and means, was able to do the necessary drawings and thankfully NOW we have our C of O and are finally enjoying our home. Safe and Sound and Beautiful!
Kentstruction comes extremely HIGHLY reccommended!"

"V & P Siding and Window gets a full A rating based on their timely response, excellent work and fair price. We were experiencing a prolonged period of high winds resulting in a portion of my fascia pulling from my house threatening damaging my neighbors cars or worse their pet dog. As soon as I noticed this I called V & P and spoke directly with Pauly the owner. I sent a few pictures and Pauly provided a fair quote and quick time frame for repair. The repair was made at the promised time, was professionally completed and my yard was treated like their own."

"These guys are the greatest! They saved us a lot of money! We had a dumpster before the bullbag and for 3 tons of material and a week rental of the dumpster it cost us $486! We own the bullbag now, had a full bag - 3.5 tons - picked up and it was only $229! We didn't have any rental charges, excess weight fees, or anything! These guys did everything they said they would! OMG! Everyone should use these guys!!!!! Also, I got the bullbag back! I never have to buy another one and its ready to use whenever I feel like doing a clean out or renovation."

"My wife and I DO NOT use anyone who is not on Angie's List so we understand the importance of having accurate, fair reviews. We found Cary on Angie's List with overall great feedback on jobs he had done so we called him in for an estimate. Despite being very busy, he made the time to come over on a Saturday morning. He had previously dropped by and assessed the damage from the outside but needed to see it from the inside to ensure he could judge it accurately. After 15 minutes, our fears were realized and he said he would need to remove the cedar impression siding and remove the roof and replace it with a different system because the pitch wasn't steep enough.
Within 48 hours, he provided a quote for his crew to come out and get the work done in a single day which was completely reasonable. He completed the work (guaranteed) as promised and left the site immaculate. He took pictures of the issue, of job progress and of the completed job. He mentioned he went around and filled some other issues he noticed while he was waiting for his crew to wrap up, no charge at all. He then discounted the quoted, agreed price 5% for angie's list deal I wasn't even aware of. Have you ever heard of a contractor accept less than an agreed price? Me neither.
Angie's List is a great resource for people to share experiences. I think the contractors who are honest and reasonable should be applauded too. We have been on the receiving end of some really lousy service so this was a new experience having someone do what they promised to do. Cary and his crew are the best in Monmouth County. We already have him pricing out finishing a storage space and will use him to build our deck in the spring. I cannot recommend Cary enough and you can reach me through Cary if you'd like to see his work firsthand.

FAQs for shelter or outbuilding building service projects in Bay Shore, NY

A bomb shelter is an abode built to withstand disaster. Bomb shelters may refer to a space or bunker that can protect inhabitants through a hypothetical nuclear attack, apocalypse, or any other massive crisis. People usually build bomb shelters underground and stock them to live there a few days to a month at a time. Doomsday bunkers accommodate long-term living rather than just through a short crisis.

Builders construct bomb shelters with reinforced steel, box culvert, concrete, or other durable materials (but many professionals do not recommend shipping containers, as they’re not designed to live underground. If building underground, you’ll first have to excavate land before building the actual structure. You’ll have to implement air and water filtration systems, septic systems, and power supply.

It takes a lot of experience to safely and legally construct a bomb shelter, not to mention make sure it’s fit to live in for extended periods of time. It’s best to talk to a residential structural engineer near you for proper guidance.

The current standard filtration systems require filtering both air and water. For air, you’ll want an NBC filter system, which both domestic and international producers make. NBC stands for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical, which filters out all three. If you’re only building your shelter for natural disasters, chemical attacks, and biological attacks, you may opt for the less expensive HEPA filter system.

Water filtration requires the same level of care. You’ll likely want to have a large water storage capacity to survive short-term disasters. For long-term living, you’ll want to have a water filtration system.

Rising S bunker prices depend on the size, ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $9 million. Their least expensive model is 96 square feet while their most expensive model has a gym, swimming pool, hot tub, and bowling alley.

  • Mini: $45,500

  • Standard Bomb Shelter: $67,500–$109,500

  • Silver Leaf: $140,000–$182,500

  • Admiral: $180,000–$500,000

  • Xtreme: $450,000–$780,000

  • Xtreme Bunker Complex: $840,000–$1,830,000

  • Luxury Series: $3,800,000–$9,600,000

You almost always need a permit to build a bunker on land with any type of public utilities running through it. You’ll want to check with your local building code enforcement agency to see if this is the case for your area.

Because you’re building a structural component that often requires electricity, water, and sewage services, you’ll need to apply for permits to attach these utilities to your new property. However, off-grid-only units in rural areas may not need all or any of the permitting you’d normally find in more urban settings.

To survive a nuclear blast, you’ll need to have your bunker at least three feet underground. However, it’s usually advisable to put it further underground. To survive a close strike, you’ll want to have the bunker at least 10 feet down and with five-foot thick reinforced concrete. However, knowing exactly how deep to build depends on the size of the blast you’re trying to avoid. Most bunkers don’t need to be more than 5 feet below the ground.
