"I emailed Mike from Acorn through Angie's list with some pictures I took with a snake scope camera i was barely able to squeeze into my attic. I knew the house was old and there was either very very little insulation or none at all. The pictures proved that there was at least something up there. It wasn't until Mike came over to show us just how little and completely ineffective the insulation was. The insulation pretty much dated back to the build of the house which was in 1943 and looked to be extremely thin wool batting. Mike not only gave us a thorough estimate but walked around the house with me to show us some tips for other unnoticed things like us not having a GFI outlet in the laundry room to getting an explosive gas/carbon monoxide detector for the boiler room to letting us know the REAL age of our windows. We were told the windows were 2 years old when we bought the house. This would make the windows about 10 years old now. They turned out to be 21 years old as Mike knew where to look for special stickers and stamped dates in the aluminum.

Now to the fun stuff. Installation day. I received a courtesy call in the morning to let me know that the men were only a few minutes away and to look for them. They arrived promptly and were very professional and nice. They laid out drop clothes all through my walkway from the front door to the hallway. Then more drop clothes that went up the stairs into bedrooms where they were to cut entrances to get into the attic, knee wall and dormers. It only took them a few hours to neatly get the job done. They were even able to re-use the cut plaster and put it back right in the exact spot of my wall. After they fixed the wall (and one coat of Spackle t too!) they were done.

I couldn't be more happy with the services done by Acorn. I wanted to get this done before it got really cold because it's absolutely freezing on my second floor in the Winter and i couldn't do it again. Now, with knowing that there wasn't ANY real insulation in my attic, knee wall or dormer i can feel warmer up there already. I know that there isn't any insulation in the walls either and Mike suggested that if this Winter isn't as warm as we hoped that it's quite easy to remove one piece of siding all around the perimeter of the house and blow in cellulose from the outside to the inside walls. If that is the case you can bet i'm going to call Acorn to do it. Truly the best.
