"I have a driveway that is very long (450+’). Over the years I’ve contracted with 4-5 companies to do paving. Recently I contracted with IPave to repave the entire driveway. I could not have been more pleased. None of my previous pavers even came close to the quality of work provided by this company. The work presented so well that they secured two other driveways to pave from adjacent and nearby neighbors. If you have asphalt paving needs you would be well advised to give them a call. You won’t be disappointed."

"Our 50-year-old front steps and walkway had multiple issues. The precast cement stairs had sunk five inches, plus a couple of steps had begun to crumble and to develop holes. One of the concrete walks had a big crack in it and had also sunk. The stone wall along the driveway was crumbling. The soil was eroding along the foundation due to the steep slope. Tom of Natural Path Landscaping designed a solution that was beautiful and safe. He and his crew were here for twelve days working on our project. They are a hard-working group, very professional, courteous, and always willing to answer any questions. They removed several shrubs, the old concrete landing and steps at the front door, and the old concrete walkway and rock wall. They installed five granite steps and a landing at the front door. They built two retaining walls with granite steps. They installed two walkways with pavers. They re-routed the downspout underneath the stairs. They spread loam on both sides of the walkway. They also installed LED lighting for illuminating the stairs, walkways, and walls. We are very happy with our beautiful, new front entry. We highly recommend Tom and his crew."

"After describing my planned shed location that would take up a big chunk of my yard, Eric quickly saw that there was a much better location -- in a wooded area just off the yard. Because it was covered with vegetation and small trees, and was abutted by a steep downward slope on one side, I had never even thought to put the shed there. Eric explained that he could level out that area using boulders, stones and gravel to create a completely stable and level area atop the slope, for less than the cost of the retaining wall in the yard. The result was better than I could have expected -- a completely level gravel pad that will accommodate a huge shed, with room to spare, that doesn't take up any of my yard. The work was done in a single day. It looked so good, I was very tempted to have Eric level out another section of the wooded area in a similar way -- I may do that yet."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Bellingham, MA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
