"Old Time Handyman was great! Good communication, he was courteous and professional, showed up when he said he would, built exactly what I’d asked for! The entire experience was so impressive, I hired him again for my next project."

"Just my luck. I've literally been trying to get these windows replaced since the end of October. I didn't realize that things were no longer customer centric in this industry. I had contacted three other companies. One got back to me. But that was after I called his phone, which was full but the message said to text them because it would be easier. So I text. Few days went by, I never heard from them. So I thought I would come onto Angie's List and message them through that. It took a few days, but I finally got a response with a bunch of questions and then the request to email them instead because it would be easier. Well, I figured that since they actually responded in Angie's List that I would respond to their questions there. No response. So that was my fault, they asked if I would email. So I emailed them and copied all of my response that I had sent in the Angie's List message. A few days went by and they replied with a quote. I was so frustrated at how hard it was to work with them just to get an estimate, that I didn't want to chance having to work with them. Too many red flags.  <br /> Well, that is when I reached out to Glass Doctor. It was a breath of fresh air. Immediate response. Set up a date for them to come and do an estimate. The guy was very professional. The estimate was a bit higher than the one that I received from the other company. But, they never came out to take measurements, so it is likely it was wrong. I had to get the glass ordered. It was about a week for it to come it, which was what I was expecting so that was good. I received a call last Thursday that it was in and we scheduled some time for them to install the windows. Monday morning between 9-12. I received a call the next day from someone else that my glass had come in and we just needed to schedule installation. I advised him that it was already scheduled. He was surprised, but was happy that it was scheduled.  <br /> I took the day off from work and decided to work from home to get them installed. I received at call around 11:30am. I thought it was them to tell me they were on their way - I was excited because it was in the 9-12 timeframe they gave me. But the guy had to apologize because the guy who was supposed to install my glass wasn't with the company anymore. So they asked if we could reschedule for the next day. I was surprised that it took almost three hours to notify me that the guy didn't show up or something. I could have went into work. But crap happens and I get that so I'm not going to hold it against them. It is frustrating because now I have to try and take another day off tomorrow. Not the greatest time for me to be doing this, but I need to get it done. So we rescheduled for 1-4 tomorrow. I'm hoping everything is flawless from this point going forward. I'm rooting for them and will change my rating once the project is complete so I can give it the review it deserves. Right now, this is where I'm at.  <br /> <br /> <br /> UPDATE: They more than made up for yesterday. Not only were they on-time, they were early. Gave me some tips on how to keep the rest of my windows to last much longer from getting moisture in them that I can easily do on my own. Very professional, very cordial - just overall it was great today. Everything was cleaned up. Looks like they were never here. I would definitely hire them again and recommend others to do so as well.  <br /> <br />"

"Was pleased with their work. There was a delay because the wrong windows came in and they had to be reordered. They kept us appraised of the situation. When the windows came in the second time, they were on site on time and completed the work quickly and professionally, with as little inconvenience to our tenants as possible. They cleaned up afterwards and were completely professional. I would definitely use them again."

"I love my Crimsafe products. I covered my entire house. The product is impressive. It is very heavy duty and I feel very safe. The product is very finished and looks clean. The installation took 2 days. It is a premium product but, worth every penny. We all rest better at night knowing that no one can break into our home. Plus it is a hurricane protection as well. So, our windows are protected during storms too. The service was great."

"I found their ad for windows and it included "fogged windowpane repair" so I called them.  I'd explored replacing my windows - most of the vinyl window seals had failed and everything was foggy.  I hated not being able to see out.  Some of the frames were out of true and leaked air as well.  Ricky came and looked at my job the very next day, and gave me a bid that was less than the cost of replacing two of the windows.  He promised not to trash my garden getting to the windows, and offered a 20 year guarantee plus low-e on the windows.  He said he'd adjust the frames while he was at it.  I went for it! <br /> They were back to do the work less than a week later, and did a lovely job.  I'm thrilled at being able to see out, and delighted with both price & quality.  I asked if they might be able to wash a couple upstairs panes that were not being replaced while they were up there, and they very kindly did that.  All frames were adjusted so they fit properly.  And they didn't hurt my garden at all, and they left everything clean behind themselves. <br /> We also didn't add those darn vinyl frames to local land-fill.  It's a win for the environment too. <br /> I had no idea it was possible to replace only the window pane units.  I put up with no view for over a decade because I thought I couldn't afford to fix the problem.  These folks are GREAT! <br />"

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Bellingham, WA

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
