"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"All workers were respectful and polite. They finished work in less time than I thought and cleaned up any mess which I appreciated. Tub and wall look beautiful. They explained how to use it. Customer service was great starting with sales rep and throughout installation. They removed the big whirlpool tub and installed a walk-in tub."

"Great.  I had this work done just over a year ago (should have submitted review sooner).
Estimate.  Charlie examined bathroom, had plenty of samples of options to review, and provided firm fixed quote.  There were some material issues that I'll note below.  At no time did the final cost change.
Timeline.  Installation began about a month or so after I accepted the quote and paid half down for material.  I think Charile was ready in about 2 weeks, but I had business travel.  Working together to find a common acceptable period for installation was easy.
Installation.  The first day Charlie showed up with a crew of 4 to take care of the electrical work (did have another ceiling fan installed) and demolition.  Following that, there were 2 full time workers on site.  They worked long hours, well over 8 hour days.  Normall, the job would have taken about a week.  I'll give more detail on the one issue below that drew the task out longer.  The guys were good about taking care not to impact the rest of the house (carpet, etc.).  After install, they did a good job cleaning up.
During the install, there were a few minor options ... how to frame the door, orientation of tile, the color of the tile, etc.  The crew provided options and good advice (I'm no kind of interior decorator).  The part of the service was excellent.
Quality.  I have done basic carpentry and electrical work.  I believe the quality of the work to be good to excellent, both what you see and what was done "behind the dry wall."  The work that you can see is excellent.
Material.  I was a little worried about the material used for the walls as opposed to tile.  I'm pleased to say I'm more than happy with the "acrylic" (I think that's correct) walls as well as base and door.
Only issue.  The base received was not the correct one.  The second base received had a quality issue.  They guys pointed this out to me.  I'm sure it cost them money out of their pocket / profit to spend the extra time on site.  My take away from this was the guys were MY quality advocates and did what was necessary to ensure the highest quality product was used and the job was done right the first time!  Things happen.  The question is how well does your contractor support you.  While I wasn't crazy about the delay (about 3 days, not major for me).  I was thrilled the issue was immediately brought to my attention and resolved even though it took extra effort on their part.
Overall job outcome.  I feel what was quoted was provided.  Very satisfied.
1 year review ... I remain satisfied.  I have had zero issues.  Other than the glass doors (which are famous for requiring cleaning when used for bath doors - this was noted before installation).  Is the biggest maintenance job.  Caring for the bath itself has required average to minimal effort.

"I was looking for a deck cleaner and refinisher for our old deck that was very dirty and mildewed. I took a chance on someone in the want ads in the Tuscaloosa News. I didn't check Angie's List because before, there have never been people from Tuscaloosa listed. Anyway, called JD Handyman phone number and had to leave a message. Waited 2 days, but he called back and immediately apologized for not returning the call sooner. He asked about the job and we arranged a time for him to come the next day to look at the deck. He said he had to finish another job by noon and would call and then be at our house after that. He called and came by at about 2:00. He looked over the job, said he could do it for $350, if we bought the deck paint. He recommended a full coverage paint, due to the condition of the wood. He also recommended going to Lowe's because he had found that their personnel were the most knowledgable about deck finishes. He said he could start the job the next morning, if we had the paint. We agreed and went to Lowe's that night to get what we wanted. JD had said he would start at 9:30 because he had to run past another job before he came here. He showed up about 9:45, which was GREAT. (Better than almost all of any other workmen we have had.) After getting everything prepared, he worked till he had done 2 bleachings, scrubbings and rinsings. He told us he was leaving for lunch and would be back to do more. He came back to check on dark spots that needed more cleaning and worked on those. He then left for the day to let everything dry overnight. he said he would be back at 8:00 in the morning and he emphasized that twice to us. He returned about 8:10 in the morning and proceeded to paint. He painted the railings, seats and other side surfaces first and gave them 2 coats. He then painted the edges of the floor area between all the boards, with a brush, on his hands and knees -- very conscientious job. Then painted the boards with a roller. He waited a while and did the second coat. He then waited a while and did a touch up on areas that needed it. He was done by 12:30 and talking to us and leaving. My husband showed him some other exterior painting we need done on our house and JD gave us a quote for that job, too. We will be calling him again, soon. He is a very nice, courteous worker. He was quiet--no loud radio, or lots of phone calls. He mentioned Angie's List, so I am giving him a review here to help him get more work. You will not be disappointed, if you call him. He does lots of other things, too, like plumbing, interior painting, repair, electrical. But I don't know personally his skill in these areas."

"So glad to find Halo (Kristi and James).  They have been awesome.  Explained that i would nickel and dime them to death.  First visit we walked and talked about the multiple jobs...All small.  They provide a quote quickly and it was broken down by job.  We have had James do multiple jobs already and are extremely pleased.  Ready to do more as budget allows.
Great Company!"

FAQs for walk in tub installation and replacement projects in Berry, AL

Because Medicare classifies walk-in tubs as non-durable medical equipment, it generally won’t pick up the tab. Medicaid can help if a doctor certifies that the tub is medically necessary, but rules change by state. Call your plan early, ask which forms you need, and keep any prescriptions or letters on file to improve your odds of reimbursement.

A walk-in bathtub’s fill and drain times hinge on your home’s water pressure and the tub’s hardware. Most models with a fast-fill faucet need about six to eight minutes to fill and two to three minutes to drain; larger basins or standard drains can tack on an extra 10 minutes. Stay seated until the water is completely gone so you don’t swing the door open on a full tub’s worth of water.

A walk-in bathtub holds 50 gallons of water, and its design supports capacities that range from 40 to 80 gallons, depending on the product. In contrast, a standard bathtub holds 25 to 45 gallons. This capacity is determined by the fixed design of the tub and its construction materials. Homeowners should review the detailed product specifications to confirm the exact volume available for use during bath time.

Walk-in tubs are tax-deductible when the purchase qualifies as a necessary medical expense and meets the IRS criteria. Caregivers who install a walk-in tub also qualify for the Dependent Care Tax Credit under specific conditions. Homeowners must verify these requirements with the IRS and consult a tax professional, as state and program guidelines enforce strict documentation standards for such deductions.
