"James was incredible to work with during every phase of the project, from the initial walk through of the proposed work, to picking out stone for the different parts of the patio, and any alterations or modifications to the original plan. His estimate was very close to the finished amount, no hidden costs or surprises at all. Every portion was met with transparency and communication, which led to an incredible backyard transformation. The quality and attention to detail really shine through every part of the project and I still can't believe how different my backyard is now!"

"I was extremely satisfied with Avalos services. They replaced old pavers and grassy area with new pavers of my choice. They rerouted the downspout so that it would not be exposed. I really liked that their references were willing to showcase their work either in person or via photos. I have and will continue to recommend them."

"The design was well conceived. The installation was careful to not disturb grass lawn. The light fixtures seem to be excellent quality. The installation was overseen by a manager."

"After 5 years of self cleaning my stone kitchen floor and not being able to remove all of the dirt and grime buildup, I finally hired Rose Restoration to professional clean my floor. They did an outstanding job. The floor looks new again! The service technician was punctual and worked extremely hard for 6 hours. It was well worth the price and I will have them back in a few years for another spruce up."

"We used Flavio and Sons since good friends a few blocks away had used them for the exact same project and highly recommended them. It was nice that we were able to see their workmanship as well in person. The price was on the higher end for our budget, but we were ok with this given our friends' experience with them. The project took 5 full days to complete and we were very lucky that the weather cooperated as well given all the rain this year. Communication was mainly via email. I would highly recommend Flavio and we are also considering them for a rear walkway. <br />"

"I selected Great American Landscapes because they worked with me to find the right solution to correct a flawed egress. Casey was great to work with and the team of installers did a fantastic job. Each associate of Great American Landscapes was polite, professional and respectful. My yard looked so much better when they were done. I would definitely hire them again."

"Their work was top-notch. They did regrading around our house as well as buried 2 drains to funnel water away from our house after we had basement flooding. Also did external waterproofing for 1 corner of the house/basement. After the work was completed we couldn't even tell how much had been done, they really incorporated everything into our existing lawn/landscaping and if anything it all looked better than what we had before! Their rates are a bit higher than others but I was much more comfortable with their knowledge/apparent quality upfront and was not disappointed."

"Mr. Bandele personally came to do the estimate the day after the call.  The property belongs to my 84 year old mother and I wanted her to be involved and comfortable but she sometimes has trouble communicating. Mr. Bandele did a very nice job on the clean up. The overgrown trees and shrubs were trimmed and shaped and the property looked much better without having to relandscape it all. When my mother had concerns, he listened and responded appropriately. He also did a great job communicating in writting, over the phone and in person with both me and my mother. He was knowledgable about the plants and how best to preserve or replace them. I would definately recommend him. <br />"

"Tim Gardner and his crew where prompt, came when they said, worked throughtout long hot the day and left the site clean each day. The quality of the original work (driveway reatining wall) led to other work. While Hughes was not the chpeaest bid we received they were very professional, did excellen work and I have no difficiult being a reference for their work with others."

"Everything went very well. The office staff (Karen and Trevor) and measurer (Albert) were very easy to work with and they answered all our questions before we started the job. When Albert did the measurements, he explained what could happen given our situation with the backsplash tile and the installer (Roberto) said the same thing before his crew started the installation. Roberto and his crew did an excellent job and was able to work with the backsplash situation to make everything fit and look great without having to remove any of the backsplash tile. It was nice to have an installation crew who were very experienced and knowledgeable and had all the right tools and supplies to do the countertop installation and the plumbing to install both sinks. If I ever need this type of service in the future, I will definitely give them a call."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Brentwood, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
