"Alec and his team provided excellent, professional service and were very thorough in their work. Alec also identified a few additional issues and clearly explained how we could address them ourselves in a simple and cost-effective way. I would strongly recommend him for any plumbing needs."

"Dave (Dawson Mechanical) is awesome. He is the only plumbing company I use. His knowledge is on another level and he runs a great company. It is easy to get an appointment and he responds right away. You can feel confident, if you have an emergency or non-emergency situation you that can get touch with him. In the past he installed a new boiler, furnace and converted us over to gas from oil heat. The work he and the guys did on the furnace/boiler is so good that other contractors comment on it. It really is a work of art - very neat. Most recently, he helped fix a bad plumbing job a contractor did during a bathroom model. The bottom of the toilet was flooding and the shower made a gurgling noise every time the toilet was flushed - it was an annoying odd problem. John came over during the covid pandemic, analyzed the situation and came up with a solution. He wore gloves, a mask and maintained space between us. I am very impressed with his expertise and the level of detail and attention he works with. However, I shouldn’t have been surprised based on how great of a company Dawson Mechanical is. He hires quality technicians. Lesson learned - dont let the contractor do plumbing work. I will definitely use Dawson Mechanical again."

Customers say: Quality work

"Don't hesitate to hire Mike MacGregor. He's excellent. We had a gas leak in a fireplace valve that was inaccessible behind a cabinet wall. We called every plumber Home Advisor recommended AND several fireplace companies (including the one that installed the fireplace). No one, except Mike, was willing to take the job or to assist us in getting access to the fireplace. When we finally gained access, Mike came with a new valve but discovered that it didn't actually need to be replaced. What honesty? He fixed the valve (saving us the cost of the replacement) and charged us a very, very reasonable price for all his work. Thank you Mike. We will definitely call again when we need a plumber."

"Miek came in and let me know a repair will be a few hundred and it may work for a couple of days or years. he informed me that there was a lot of crap on the bottom of the talk so its time was ending, or replace it. I went with the repair and for months it all worked. Then the sad day came when I had to replace the tank. Mike and his assisant were great!! They were polite and made sure everything was the way they found it (frankly it was probably cleaner than he found it). I HIGHLY recommend him. I guarantee anytime I need anything in plumbing or heating he will get a call. Teh only thing bigger then him is his knowledge and his heart. He is honest and a GREAT plumber"

"A Graf and Son was extremely professional and I am very pleased with the work they performed. They investigated my basement thoroughly and determined an issue with the foundation wall which was repaired in no time. They additionally installed a sump pump and French drain and my basement has never been drier! Aaron and his team were polite, punctual and very accommodating. I would highly recommend A Graf and Son."

"The service was excellent. After a week of 90+ degree weather, our Central AC compressor failed. We were fortunate that the weather turned cooler for about a week while we gathered estimates. Not only did George (from Stay Cool) come in with a great price, he re-arranged his schedule so that he could install everything before the heat wave that was due to arrive in just a few days (we spoke on Thursday - he made some changes in his schedule and arrived on Monday to do the job !). Throughout the process he was knowledgeable and helpful. He shared with us several options for installation as well as the location of the new ac compressor (outdoors). While completing his review of the situation, he spent extra time inspecting our current ductwork to ensure everything would be running efficiently. In fact, through his inspection, he discovered that the ductwork for one of our bathrooms was never actually connected during the original construction of the house ! We have never received heat or ac in that bathroom and now that mystery was solved. He willingly came back the next day after the installation and fixed the situation by installing the necessary ductwork for that room (and he only requested that we pay for the additional materials !). Also, just before the installation, he noticed that our current water heater was installed in a location that would prevent access to the motor of the newly installed heating unit. While it was not an expense we had planned on (even though that unit was 13 years old), he helped us to find a way to reduce his cost a little, find a plumber who could immediately install a new water heater, and assisted in beginning the process for eligible rebates. All in all, George was attentive, responsive, and professional. We were very happy with the process and look forward to recommending his work to our friends and neighbors."

"I could not be more pleased. Tom, the proprietor was very easy to reach, very punctual and very professional. For both jobs, the quotes were very competitive, undercutting other quotes in both cases. When it came time to do the job, they showed up right on time, worked very efficiently and delivered very neat quality results. I feel like I paid handyman prices yet got quality expert work. Fox plumbing are honest, consummate pro's. I will not hesitate to use again."

"Very well. Dennis came out and gave us two options for the job, so we could choose which worked for us. Prices for each option were very competitive. His guys were terrific - pleasant and professional. They were there when they said they would be and stayed late to finish the job in one day. We have used Right One Plumbing many times in the past (old house, multiple plumbing issues) and they have never let us down. We'd recommend them every time."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Bridgewater, NJ

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
