"The workers came on the appointed day with a longer ladder, as suggested.    Terry called to ask if he and an assistant could come by earlier than the original appointment time because they had finished work scheduled in the area earlier than expected; that certainly worked for me.    He surveyed the roof, took pictures and reattached a loose shingle that had fallen into the gutter.   Terry showed me the pictures of the roof from many angles; they showed no other repairs were necessary at this time.  Terry asked if there was anything else that required attention, but nothing else was immediately apparent.  He gave me his card and explained that the company does general contacting work.

"Take home message: Joe DaSilva from SILMAC Construction is a reliable contractor who produces a great result and is easy to work with. We purchased an older home this summer and worked with SILMAC on a major renovation including full kitchen and 1.5 bathroom renovations, as well as updates, structural work and repairs throughout the home. Joe has been responsive from the start and worked with us on our timeline, starting work as soon as we purchased the home. We are now on week 16 of SILMAC's quoted 8 week turnaround time, but this is largely due to change orders we have made as we learned more about the home. Joe has brought in a talented team to do the work. Joe is knowledgeable and has good advice, and is willing to discuss and price out different scenarios for you before you make a decision about what to move forward with. He was an excellent resource when considering multiple options and saying "we can do it, but I don't think it's worth it for you." This really helped us stay on budget! Overall, our new home is completely transformed and we are very happy with the result. Communication has been by phone, text and email, which overall has worked well for us, but occasionally things have been miscommunicated or misunderstood. Just general advice for any construction project, keep in mind that your contractor is busy and to make your expectations clear, send reminders and document decisions. Overall, Joe was very reliable and easy to talk to and clarified anything we asked about. Everyone on his crew was very nice to work with, but specifically we wanted to mention Antonio, who may be one of the nicest people we've ever worked with! Joe's billing process was clear, transparent and if he left anything out or if we requested clarification or corrections, they were worked out quickly. We have completed several renovations in a smaller home with different contractors over the years, and this overall experience with SILMAC was better than any of our other renovations. We would work with SILMAC again and have already started discussing work that we hope to do sometime in 2020/2021. We are working through our punch list right now and will update this post or add another review if anything changes from what we've written here."

So I was pleased with how smoothly this project went from start to finish. A formal written quote was provided via email which I accepted and he scheduled the work for the following week. "When we started looking for a contractor on Angie's List, we were skeptical that we could find someone who could do three things: being within our budget, easy to communicate with and making sure that the final product was of high quality. We had a big project (renovating two bathrooms, renovating a kitchen, taking down a wall, removing wood paneling from multiple rooms, remodeling our basement, including removing asbestos tile from the whole basement, whole house interior painting, remodeling the laundry room, installing new light fixtures everywhere, etc) and Sanfer ended up being the perfect contractor for us. He was so easy to get in touch with and he did a great job keeping us updated on the project as it was coming along (we weren't living there at the time). While the project ended up going over the original budget we set, we also added multiple projects along the way that Sanfer was able to accomplish. The other thing we truly appreciated is that Sanfer has a true eye for quality and was able to ensure everything was exactly to our standards -- the tiling, the painting, even the installation of our new doorknobs. He even brought certain things up to us to help make the home more secure and prevent future damage (putting up stronger supports under our deck, fixing the flashing around the chimney) that he didn't need to do. When a few things needed to be fixed after the renovations were complete, he wasted no time in sending someone out to do the repair. Sanfer was so nice, honest, and enjoyable to work with, things we were not expecting to find in our general contractor but which made the whole renovation experience that much more positive. We would absolutely recommend him and his crew to anyone who is looking for a trustworthy contractor who will do a high-quality job for a fairly reasonable price."

"George and his crew were excellent. What I appreciated most was his integrity and commitment to providing quality work. He didn’t cut corners, and he made recommendations that will ensure that my new deck will last for years to come. He discovered some pre-existing conditions with the foundation of my home that he could’ve ignored and that could’ve caused problems down the line had he not addressed them and just built around them. While I had not anticipated having to make such extensive repairs, it made sense, and I’m glad that I did. I’d work with this company again and highly recommend George and his crew to others. We've been in the space 6+ months and haven't had any problems. Our basement has been dry (they installed a perimeter drain)."
