"Should be called "Steal-tite". Company came out to give estimate in MAY 2019. Said they couldn't do the job until December, but we weren't having any leaks by June, so we went ahead and signed contract, sent in $800 deposit. Well, we ended up buying another house and decided not to have the work done. This was about October. Tried to call Seal-tite several times, always get the "answering service" and they never call back. Finally found the card of the engineer who quoted our estimate, Curt Giantonio. He said too bad so sad for our deposit, and that we had no recourse to get the money back. I realize the contract said the deposit was non-refundable. But the company could have been courteous, understood the situation, and refund my deposit even though legally they don't have to. Instead they've chosen to keep my money for zero services rendered. I could understand them keeping a portion to cover the travel costs of the engineer who came on site to give the estimate, but there's no way that is anywhere near $800. Greedy company that obviously doesn't care about people."

"Chad took over for another contractor that didn't know what he was doing. He inherited quite a mess. Chad investigated all of the prior work thoroughly, and was honest in his assessment that everything the prior contractor did would not last, and needed to be redone. I was unhappy, to say the least, but had my suspicions before Chad even looked at it. Chad did a thorough inspection and measurements for his quote, and made sure he asked all the questions he needed for an accurate quote, and addressed all of my concerns. After hiring Chad, he and his crew got to work at the time that I was given. He and his crew were very professional and very curteous, and I never had any issues with them during their time here. The crew cleaned up after themselves every day and always asked if it was ok to leave any tools or equipment at the house. Chad is not one of those guys who "does it all", and if you ask him, he will tell you. Each profession (Tile, drywall, paint, plumbing, electrical) has it's own specialized tooling and methodology, and he understands that in order to achieve the best results, one must use those professionals who work their trade every day. Chad made sure everything was lines up at each stage of the project, and dealt with all of the trades that he subcontracted. Each of these trades were fully licensed and bonded and were people who Chad could count on to do an excellent job. At every stage of the project, if there were ANY questions that needed to be answered about how I wanted something to look, or options that I had, Chad NEVER hesitated to ask me how I wanted it to be. I did not have to worry about Chad just doing "what he thought I wanted" like you may find with other contractors. Any concern that I had, Chad addressed, and resolved. I changed my mind on quite a few things, and Chad rolled with the punches. The most important thing after quality, Chad kept himself within budget! Even with some of the changes I made, he was able to keep me close enough to my original quote that I was impressed. I had expected a larger final bill than what I received, and I was quite relieved. I will be doing more projects at my home, and will ONLY be using Chad Henry Construction and his sub-contractors for the job. Chad takes pride in his work, and stands behind it. I had hired my own electrician, who actually introduced me to Chad, but in the future I will not be using them, as I had trouble with them! I will be using Chad to spearhead ALL work in the future. You will not be unhappy with hiring Chad Henry Construction. I wouldn't pay attention to any other negative review, because Chad is a straight shooter. If he cannot do something, he will tell you. If he has policies in place, he will tell you. Old school pride and work ethic."

"We began the building process of our new home in December of 2015 and move in in July 2016. I decided to not post negative reviews at the time because I had been so distraught during the process I just wanted to forget about the whole process and move on but today is the day to leave the review. The entire home building process was a nightmare from the beginning to end. The first issue was with basement door framed out to the wrong size, installed and charged for retaining walls without any communication to us after we specifically stated we did not want retaining walls. We had several windows and doors not centered properly. They installed the wrong tile in guest bathroom. And these were just a few of the issues we had during the build. I guess the one main issue was with the owner of the company and the way we were treated. We were told to not go to the home everyday and look for mistakes and any mistakes would be taken care at the end of the process. He locked us out of our own home and would not let us in to see what was going on until he received his final payment. He wanted the final payment before the house was completed. It was an issue everyday of something being done wrong or him treating us terrible. We did not have one change order in the home but he kept telling us that he had $30,000 of his own money in this home. Now I am posting this today, 6 years later because we decided to have the metal replaced on all our door frames due to the metal work being so bad. After removing the metal wrapping we found all the garage doors and man doors to be rotting and all the door frames are going to have to be replaced after only 6 years. Please beware!!!!!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Bristol, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
