"Just wanted to say how happy my wife and I are with the beautiful work that Jaber Construction did on our bathroom remodel. We did are due diligence by getting more than one estimate before proceeding and Jaber Construction was really affordable compared with other ridiculous estimates we received. That being said Jaber Construction's work was fantastic! Nick the owner and his crew were very professional, and Nick was always available and easy to communicate with if we had any concerns regarding the remodel. Nick also suggested a place to get our tiles which made the process so much easier. From start to finish he and his crew were very professional and punctual. There was a lot of moving pieces to this remodel, but Nick made it pretty much pain free! I would highly recommend Jaber Construction for your remodeling needs!"

"Thomas Custom Builders recently remodeled our unfinished basement. We had originally hired them to remodel our master bathroom but when COVID hit we shifted our focus to our partially unfinished basement. They had no problem with the change and quickly designed our basement for secondary living and room for extended guest stays. We truly appreciated the professionalism, workmanship and, above all, cleanliness of the TCB team. They went above and beyond to clean up each and every day. They wore masks and kept their distance from our family. They fielded questions from subcontractors so we didn't have to be unnecessarily exposed. The space itself turned out beautifully and has already proved invaluable. When our teen was recently exposed to COVID he was able to very comfortably isolate until he received his negative diagnosis. Even in these times of uncertainty, we wholeheartedly recommend Thomas Custom Builders if you are considering a remodel."

"The front yard of my townhouse was a mess. I had mostly weeds and dirt and a burning bush and tree that was out of control. Juilo and his crew came in and within two days, removed the burning bush, trimmed the remaining bushes, trimmed back the tree and installed a beautiful retaining wall, with river stone and perennials, and added new sod. My front lawn is now beautiful, thanks to ET. General Contractor, Inc. I highly recommend them for your landscaping project!"

"Basement Project We absolutely love our new basement! I was very nervous when selecting the contractor for this job. I interviewed three contractors for the job, all seem very decent, but what set Best Home apart was Jeff Segovia. He designed the whole layout of our basement (we love it) and oversaw the entire project from beginning to end. The construction crews were very polite and friendly. Best Home did an excellent job and very flexible with many changes I had and they completed the job on time (took 3 months and exactly 1 week)which was amazing. I am actually hiring them again for additional projects. I highly recommend Best Homes!"

Customers say: Quality work

"We hired United Capital Construction to remodel a master bath and add three rooms (home theater, basement bath, and bedroom) in my partially finished basement. I received four quotes from other vendors, but we felt the flexibility, selecting our custom materials, and designing touches would work best for our project. The quotes were well documented, the statement of work was clear, and I felt it was very competitively priced. Also, Daniel was the only person to recommend adding a bedroom in the basement area. Adding a bedroom included cutting a 42" window in concrete, pulling permits, inspections, etc. It would add significant value to our home and provide space for our growing family. Great vision and terrific idea! We met with Daniel and shopped at some recommended vendors to design ideas and pick out materials and chat about our design touches and vision. I sourced materials from online vendors and big box stores (using my military discount). Still, I chose to use the UCC recommended vendors for tiles, cabinets, countertop, shower glass, and flooring. The recommended vendors provided a very nice selection, materials, and value. The project kicked off on-time as scheduled once materials arrived and were staged. Daniel's Uncle Alex was our primary coordinator and builder. Alex is a great person and became a trusted advisor. Daily he made our ideals and vision a reality. He took the time to answer my questions throughout the process and made recommendations from his vast experience. Daniel was always a phone call or text away to help manage the project. Daniel would come by often to evaluate the project and check-in on the work. He always spent time with us and treated us like we were his only customer. The project was significantly delayed because of the Loudoun County Inspections. Daniel updated us as we eagerly waited to restart the construction. After the 3rd week of delays, we requested to shift the efforts to our Master Bath remodel. We had initially planned to start the master bath after the basement. Daniel moved the crew to complete the master bath, but we had a minimal time window that worked best for our family. Alex and the crew worked hard and over the weekends to get the Master Bath functional as quickly as possible. As they completed the master bath, the inspectors were finally ready for the basement pre-drywall inspection. All permits and inspections were granted, and the rest of the project went quickly. The crew had access to our home 8-6 daily and finished all of our projects, punch list items, and clean-up. Start to finish; it was three months with a three-week stoppage. Of course, we made some changes; there were some communication issues and minor challenges along the way, but that is expected. We worked through them as Partners. We are delighted with the work, effort, coordination, and we highly recommend United Capital Construction to our friends and family. I will call and hire them in the future."

"I Greatly enjoyed working with Robert up until the walkthrough inspection. Project: walling off a 12x12 2nd floor retreat (framing, drywall) Robert's team: very nice and courteous. Timeline: Ran over 1 day Price: fair even though the door, and hardware was oddly not included craftsmanship issues: the crown molding did not line up correctly on either side, new wall was not inline with the floorboards, hardware did not match, gap on 1 shoe molding side. Is there a new wall? Yes, but the above lack of attention to detail did bother me enough not to use Option 1 for any upcoming projects"

"This contractor has been very good. He does what he says he will do when he says he will. He has also offered many good suggestions for modifications to our original ideas about the project. Some added to the cost, some did not, and some made the project cheaper. He responds quickly to phone and email messages and the crew leaves the site very neat at the end of the day."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Broad Run, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
