"The project overall went very well, I have no complaints regarding the team that performed the work who did an excellent job in a very professional manner. They project was completed in a very short time frame even though there were some unforeseen issues related to the age of the house and some prior work that was done to the roof."

"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"This was a complete and positive experience in dealing with a contractor. Contacted JJs Roofing through the list along with 2 other companies. Had email and phone contact with the principals of each company and arranged for persons to come to the site to evaluate the project and make accurate measurements for a more detailed proposal. Within the same day of making the evaluations, I received 2 competitive bids to do the job. The third competitive bid was submitted sometime later after I committed to JJs and had the work completed! The scope of work was similar in all aspects and there was only a slight difference in the price. To their advantage, JJs proposed to do the job in 3 days while the other bids proposed 5 or 6 days. Because this is winter and the weather plays a huge factor in the roofing business, I opted for the 3-day make over where nice weather was predicted. In dealing with JJs owner John Johnston, he was helpful and extremely accommodating. He was mindful of my own circumstances of having to travel from out of town to be present during the project's work days. I was extremely grateful for this consideration. Once I accepted the JJs bid, a crew was sent back to the job site to remeasure for the replacements skylight and the access door. These are custom items so it is important to be accurate. The day of the job, JJs sent a crew led by Hector Ramos who along with another worker had done the preliminary evaluation. The men went about the job with speed, efficiency and care. The unusual break in the weather was great incentive for the men to work. After the first day, the old roof was torn off and general repairs to the underlying structure was begun and completed. The roof was covered with a tarp for the night. Day two, the men showed up promptly and continued their work. When I ventured to the roof top, Hector took the time to explain in great detail the entire process and timetable for the work. Because there where other elements involved beyond just laying down a new roof, I appreciated his explanations. I had a skylight replaced, a new roof access door installed, the relocation of the main drain and installation of a down spout, and the replacements of vent caps. The entire crew were courteous and extremely professional. By the end of the second day, I was sure I had made the right decision in choosing JJs. The final day and Hector assured me they would be finished on time and before the expected rains would come. I glanced at their progress throughout the day and saw the work completed on time. The men were extremely careful to clean everywhere debris landed in or around the work area on top and on the ground. When they left, the entire area was spotless! It was great having the highly skilled professionals from JJs Roofing working on this project. It is with high confidence that I recommend JJs Roofing for your roofing needs. They deliver in quality, craftsmanship, and service. It was a pleasure doing business with this company."

"Our first contact with The Gutter Guy was with their Office Manager, Elaine. She set up an appointment for the owner, Gary Zarza, to come to my house and scope out the job. Gary showed up at the appointed time and measured, diagramed and photographed the prospective job. He is a very nice person. He explained the options for five or six inch gutters and rectangular or round leaders. Gary also explained that they use top grade Aluminum in the thickest gauge available. Their gutters are all seamless. I asked Gary about the difference between 5" and 6" gutters along with a bunch of other questions. Gary patiently answered all of my questions and recommended options for placement of the leaders to disguise their presence as much as possible. Previously the house was sided with white vinyl and it had 5" gutters and the common rectangular leaders. In the remodel we are going to a Cypress colored shingle and we are using a ton of Certainteed Vinyl "Restoration Millwork" (all very pricey) so the last thing I wanted to do was end up with common pedestrian gutters. Gary explained that from an esthetic point of view, the 6" gutters would look the best because they would fill the entire 6" facia. He also explained that the 6" gutters would be more efficient in removing the largest quantities of rain water and even minor debris so they were the best option from a practical standpoint. Finally, Gary suggested that round leaders would enhance the old fashioned look that our remodel was attempting to capture. When we were done, Gary said that they would provide a proposal that would contain several options: (1) 5" gutters with 2" x 3" rectangular leaders (what we had on the house from our 1991 remodel); (2) 6" gutters with oversized 3"x 4" rectangular leaders; and (3) 6" gutters with 4" round smooth leaders. All options were in White. We opted for the third option which was approximately $600 more expensive than option #1. After the proposal was selected, signed and returned, Elaine advised us to call to schedule installation about a week before the house was ready for the gutter installation. We did so and a two week window for the installation was created. Two days before The Gutter Guy was ready to perform the installation, we received a call from Elaine who advised when Gary's crew would show up. At the appointed time on the appointed day (8/6/14) Gary's two man crew showed up and installed the 6" gutters and round 4" leaders. The installation took about four hours from beginning to completion. Gary's crew handled the clean up and they were neat as a pin in expertly fabricating and installing the seamless 6" gutters. They made some adjustments in placing some of the leaders to account for prospective placement of security cameras. All of the white round leaders were placed against the white Certainteed vinyl 6" Super Corners. Gutters and leaders were installed using hidden brackets. The best part: THE INSTALLATION LOOKS FABULOUS !!!!!!!!! I actually stood in front of my house admiring the look of the gutters and leaders for more than a half hour. The installation looks architecturally impressive and substantial and also totally natural at the same time. The leaders are virtually masked by their placement against the white vinyl Super Corners. My wife and I are so happy that we opted for the 6" gutters and the round 4" leaders. The higher cost is money well spent . In fact, I believe this enhances the value of our house. The Gutter Guy (Gary Zarza, Elaine and the two man crew that handled the installation) was an absolute pleasure to work with and I will, without reservation, recommend their service to my friends and neighbors. The Gutter Guy more than lived up to its well deserved Angie's List reputation. I can't wait for it to rain !!!

"The owner came out, walked around my house and inspected the roof . Gave me a written estimate ,told me exactly what he was going to do. They came out and turned out that I needed new plywood on half the roof. 40 new sheets. I was very upset. Eddie, the owner was very understanding and gave me a reasonable price below what the contract called for. They finished the work in one day. Cleaned up all the mess covered all the fascia boards, replaced all the rotten wood around the eaves. They did a great job. The roof and the house looks amazing. I'd recommend him to anybody"

FAQs for wood or fiber cement siding installation or complete replacement projects in Bronx, NY

Yes, removing your existing siding before installing new cedar siding is essential for a secure and long-lasting installation. It helps eliminate hazards like rot and pest infestations and ensures a smooth surface for the new siding. Leaving old siding in place can compromise the appearance and integrity of your new cedar siding. Engaging a licensed siding contractor will ensure proper removal and preparation.

To determine how much cedar siding you'll need, start by measuring the height and width of each exterior wall of your home to calculate the area. For gable ends, measure from the base to the peak. Add up all these areas and then add an extra 10% to account for waste and future repairs. This ensures you purchase enough siding without running short.

Cedar siding endures between 20 and 40 years if maintained correctly from the start. This lifespan is secured by performing regular inspections for cracks, fungus, and bubbling and by pursuing consistent cleaning, painting, or staining with an appropriate sealant. Engaging a professional for periodic inspections ensures that your siding remains resilient and visually appealing for decades.

Your cedar siding must be maintained every three to five years through a thorough restaining or repainting process to preserve its strength and appearance. Regular maintenance prevents damage and ensures that the wood remains in peak condition. For homeowners seeking a less demanding upkeep schedule, choosing vinyl or aluminum siding offers a more resilient alternative while still providing exceptional style.
