"I do carpentry on my own but I was reluctant to repair dry-rot around my mother's windows as I know how troublesome rural houses can be. I hired Jeremy and he made quick work if it. The finished product is fantastic and the cost was under my own evaluation. It was so good we hired him on to build a deck for us this fall."

"How did it go???? It went great, Ryan and his crew busted out and finished all the remodel within the first window. I was only expecting 6 or 7 to be finished, he finished them all. Ryan also had ideas on how to save us money and we incorporated those into the project. We can't wait to remodel the next set of bathrooms, Passow Remodeling will be our go to team."

"Matt was incredibly helpful to us in suggesting options for deck design, flooring materials, stiles, railings, and colors for all parts of the deck.  He explained the pros and cons of natural vs man-made deck flooring, cost comparisons and life expectancy for each, and maintenance and upkeep required for each.  Very detailed in preparation of his presentation, anticipating questions we might ask and had the answers or got them very quickly.  <br /> Matt also explained different building options we had (4x4 vs 6x6 support posts) and the various costs of each, etc.  We ultimately chose man-made deck flooring and stained redwood for the rails and posts.  Matt consulted with us at each step of the project to make sure it was going as we expected. He made several trips to the paint store and stained redwood rail sections beforehand, adjusting and tweaking the color mix so we could compare choices and get the exact color we wanted for the deck rails.  <br /> The end result of the finished deck is beautiful, and we are extremely satisfied with his work, with the time it took to finish the project, and the cost.  Matt also added in a couple of small repairs (adjusting door to close better, replacing door sill, and repairing outside outlet that didn't work) for no additional charge. <br /> We are extremely pleased with his work, his honesty and ethics, and his prices.  It is obvious that Matt not only does his homework for each individual client but has the knowledge and experience to back it up.  We have already scheduled him for our next project which will be a master bath remodel. <br />"

"In replacing the water valve, they did a good job. The guy was professional. They were extremely high. I think they were way out of the line. Then, on the stool, he didn't fix it. He couldn't see what was wrong. I ended up having a handyman that I know and he came over and found out instantly what was wrong and it was a no big deal thing. I think it cost me a maximum of $20 and it has been fine ever since, so I thought their pricing was way out of line. I would never use them again. The guy that came was very nice and I felt like he acted professionally and everything. However, he didn't fix a simple thing in the stool. They were very responsive. I don't remember them being late or anything."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Burlingame, KS

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
