"In reading the reviews on Angie’s list it was clear that Ruban Electric was exactly the company to call. They found our issues with the electrical panel in less than 15 minutes. We are very pleased with their service. It’s nice to know that we now have an electrician to contact for future work."

"After meeting with five different representatives from various companies, we chose to hire DK. Barry presented a thorough explanation of what he expected to do and what would work best, had detailed information on pricing of the different tiers, information on warranties, a realistic time frame for when the job would be complete, etc. We did choose one of the premium options, Barry and Brendan did a wonderful, clean, efficient job of replacing the main electric panel in the basement and the subpanel on the first floor (we had an old and dangerous Federal Pacific panel). During the official transfer to using the new panel by PSEG, we were only without power for maybe 4 hours at the max! Other companies told us we would be without power for multiple days, which didn't bother me too much, though the rest of my family was happy with how quickly the electric was back on. Barry was comfortable with having me following, watch and learn about the panel as he was installing. Lisa, who worked in the office and was the main organizer behind keeping everyone on the same schedule! Lisa was kind, easy to contact, responded punctually, and I appreciated her attention to detail. Thank you DK for working effortlessly with my family to make our home safe."

"Generally it went well with one or two small exceptions. Troubleshooting the new range hood proved somewhat futile as the problem turned out to be an issue with the bulbs. Should have interrogated the manufacturer more that I did before bringing in an electrician. But at least I got some peace of mind that it wasn't a short. The electrician identified a few potential problem (that turned out to be false - but having proposed them he also was able to determine that his initial concern was wrong). So finally got the electrician to call the manufacturer's technical support line (which he had originally rejected) and after a brief discussion identified the issue with the bulbs. Note: Manufacturer did not indicate restriction on LED bulbs in the installation details - so boo on Broan. The other problem was a a replaced outlet that did not work properly. The original (old) outlet had one of the receptacles connected to a wall switch, but the replacement was not. However after notifying them of the problem - the owner came that afternoon to correct the wiring. Admittedly I probably should have told the original technician about the switched receptacle, but I assumed that he would have wired the replacement as the original had been. The owner agreed and apologized for the error. So despite the problem - it was corrected quickly and with an apology."

"Brandon electric was an awesome company to work with! Great customer service and a professional team. They helped us wire for and install two overhead lights in our bedrooms. They also installed a new outlet where we needed one, and helped by recommending the best placement for this new outlet. Thankful for this team, their guidance and their hard work! Would definitely hire again!"

"It went great. I asked them to install 6 hard wired HD security cameras around the exterior of my house. They recommended types of systems. I found a system I liked, then they came in and ran all the wires. They even suggested placement that made sense. Once the cameras were installed and wires were run, I did the set up myself. While they were here, they also changed out the old broken flood lights I had. Thanks!"

"We needed to put a cable outlet on a wall in our music room where we were relocating a computer, desk, router and speakers, and Mike Stapleford did the job in about an hour or so. He has years of experience and was a nice guy. <br />"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Camden, NJ

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
