"I called Levi on a Saturday because we were down to 1 toilet for 6 people. The downstairs toilet had suddenly started gurgling on Thursday night. Internet research said it was a clog, so I called Roto Rooter Friday morning. To their credit, they came out that afternoon, but did not locate the clog. After removing the toilet and digging up the septic, they told my sons that there was no clog, but the septic tank was full. So I called Levi Saturday morning, DURING the Electra snow storm. He arrived at our house in Trumansburg (from Newfield) in 90 minutes, dug up 2 additional spots, found the clog (yes, there was a clog), pumped the tank, and only charged us $200. <br /> <br />"

"We interviewed and received estimates from three blacktop and drainage professionals in the local area. One was hugely over priced and the other two were pretty comparable, with Alex Cole being slightly higher. It basically came down to our confidence in the experience of the workers and how they explained what they were going to do for our project. Tim was an absolute pelasure to work with and Renee in their office was very helpful. <br /> The crew came out on a Thursday for the prep work and laid the pavement, sealed the driveway and completed most of the drainage work on Friday. They waited about 1 and a half weeks to do the final grading and seeding of the lawn where they did the drainage work to allow the ground to settle first. <br /> The only reason that I couldn't give them a full and quot;Aand quot; was that I think they could have been more proactive in explaining why they were waiting to finish the final grading/lawn repairs. When I came home Friday night and found the lawn still torn up I was a bit dismayed as I had assumed based on our previous conversations that the work would by 100% complete Friday night. No note was left behind to explain and I had to wait until Monday to find out what was going on. Their answer satisfied me and when they came to complete the work they were very quick and efficient. I would definitely use them again. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Caroga-lake, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
