"I have been doing business with this family for 5 or 6 years. I've always been pleased with every aspect of our relationship. They are on schedule and meticulous. I highly recommend this company. I have also seen some of their landscaping creations. From designing and planning flower beds to stone and water features. I intend to have them help me with planning and installation. They are pros."

"The team of workers did whatever it took to make sure we were completely satisfied with every aspect of their work. Every single person on the team seems completely committed to doing a superior job, and each person takes such incredible pride in a job well done. Tim runs a tight ship, but everyone is equally committed to the job. They started exactly when they promised, and completed the job as timely as possible given many changes by us, and the unfortunate injury of one of the senior people on the project. We can recommend American Paving for ANY hard scape, paving, patio or pool. They are creative, positive, and efficient. You will definitely get good value for the money, and we can't imagine a team of people who could be more pleasant, hard working, or positive. <br />"

"Service technicians were well prepared and switched out a broken sink for a new one without trouble. No damage was done to the wall or existing granite countertop. We disconnected the plumbing fixtures ourselves before the job was started."

"On September 23, we met Steve from PLD at our house. While he was a good listener, he talked about possibly doing a larger project than we had in mind. But once he understood that we didn't need under paver drainage lines, he was happy to modify the design. The project contract was signed Nov 2021 and deposit of 1/3 given. The start date was set up then that fit with their schedule and ours. To my surprise, the actual start date was the exact date previously decided- Jan 26, 2022. A team of seven came and wasted no time getting into the job. They were incredibly hard working. During excavation the house water line and an irrigation line were broken, which we were warned may happen. The house water supply was repaired within two hours. The other could wait as it was not in use in January. Whenever there were questions, the team leader came to me. He wanted to be sure I was happy. In the early few days, we met the job superintendent, Jason. He gave us his cell and asked us to call, if there was any concern at all, 24/7. It was clear to me from the beginning, that this team was going to install the pavers exactly according to my direction and in a very precise manner. In several instances, we made changes to the original design, either at their suggestion or ours. I was very happy that these changes did not incur further labor costs, just some material costs. The end result is beautiful. We have had multiple compliments from friends and family. While the project was expensive, according to my previous hopes, we are extremely pleased overall. In addition, the project used less material than planned for and this was reflected by a reduced final bill. In November, I had planned to withhold 10% until after I was completely satisfied with the installation, but I was so happy with the results that I did not withhold any money. I highly recommend this company for your hardscape project!"

"Excellent and TRUE test of a contractor experience I had a larger construction job - drain fields - being renovated but that company didn't do irrigation systems. I needed TradeWinds to show up on a specific day, on short notice and execute the job to install an irrigation system and sod. That part went very well - but the true test was that there were complications later that needed to be addressed. I called - they responded and remedied the issues. ANY company can sell you a service once - but not all of them come back when you need a little help/service after the sale. GREAT follow up. THANKS."

"This experience was outstanding from start to finish. Buddy arrived on time for the estimate, provided a fair price and didn't try to sell me more than I needed. The job was in a confined area of downtown Charleston which would have ordinarily required many trips with a small truck. I was okay with paying for this, but without prompting, he negotiated with the owner of a neighboring lot to eliminate this cost and passed the savings along. That's customer service! The gravel has been installed for a month now and still looks great. Overall, my experience was excellent and they receive my highest recommendation."

"We had an overall wonderful experience with Williford Roofing, and couldn't have been happier to work with them for the first time. We were recommended to them from a good friend and so we put in a request for a full roof replacement on our 2 story home. They got back to us very quickly and provided us with the information we needed to make a decision on what to do. They were able to give us a very affordable estimate and a work schedule that fit into both of our schedules. They arrived on time and got the work done quickly but accurately. We were very satisfied with their high level of customer service before, during and after the roof has been installed!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Charleston, SC

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
