"Service tech came out to our house 3 times.  First time, he tried (unsuccessfully) to locate the septic tank.  He suggested that I get info from the health Department on the exact location of the tank.  I did and he came out a second time and was able to locate the tank.  Tank was pretty deep and in rocky soil.  He said he could hand dig, but recommended bringing in a small tractor to dig it up because they charge more for hand digging per hour and tractor was a flat rate.  Same tech came out a third time and dug up tank and pumped/cleaned.  He was super friendly each time and we were never charged for the first 2 visits.  They were full of good advice and helped me solve the problem without spending a bunch of money.
