"William and his crew were punctual, courteous, and professional. William walked me through the process for the work, inspected the areas he needed to access, and answered all my questions with enthusiasm which made me feel respected as a customer. They worked diligently and when the whole job was complete, including air quality testing, he walked me through for approval. I truly think my basement was left cleaner than before they started. I had nothing to clean up, throw out, or pick up after they were done. I am so pleased I used BlueStone for my Asbestos removal project and their pricing was right in line with a competitor. Thank you!"

"It was amazing! I needed this to happen fast as we were in the middle of redecorating. I called Kevin at 9:o0 and he said he could be there at 10:30. He showed up, did 8 samples from various materials and had my answer the next day by 2:30pm. Thankfully, I had no asbestos and my mind cleared and I was very happy. He told me the cost of simply getting a removal permit in Cook County and I was very thankful I spent the $500 for the service including 8 samples tested. Kevin charges $300 plus $25/sample. I had 8 areas that needed it. The best $500 I ever spent. I called other services that wanted $450 to come out plus the $25/sample. Kevin was fast and priced well."

"If you ever suspect you have toxic mold START the process with a seasoned MOLD professional, Curt.  Do not go with a generic home inspection company. <br /> I was in a situation where we were starting to cycle thru mold testing cycles - it was getting very expensive (at ~ $500 a pop) and we were not getting any guidance about where the source of the mold could be from the testing company - just that the results say there is toxic mold. <br /> Curt was able to guide me  - tell me what most likely happened, what to do / what not to do, and guide the mold remediation so we could be clear that we had cleaned up fully - so we would know if there was an additional source of mold.  As a result of his guidance - we were able to completely clean up all the mold and get out of the cycle of mold testing. <br /> In hindsight, I wish I had known about Curt and would have used him for the MOLD testing because he provided clear guidance about how to handle the situation.  I did not get this from the existing home inspection company that was doing the testing. <br /> As I had already started with an existing home inspection company, it didn't make sense to switch companies at the point we were in the process.  Curt guided me and didn't charge me for his guidance.   <br /> Curt is a true professional and knows his business. It was a pleasure to work with him. <br /> <br />"

"I WISH I could use this company all the time to check random things at my current home. I first used them to do the home inspection on a home I put a bid on. I was concerned that the house may be sagging so they arranged for an inspector that had a contractor/engineer background to perfect the inspection. They went through everything so thoroughly that I was beyond impressed. I have NEVER had a home inspection that was this detailed. I absolutely cannot recommend them enough."

"I was out of town when our contract to purchase a town home was accepted and was concerned we wouldn't get the job done within the 5 day time period called for in the contract. Our Realtor provided a list of inspection companies. I went ahead and called The Home Inspector first. From the detailed information provided during the call, I said to myself, why make additional calls -- these guys get it. Plus, the were available the next day. The inspector (Jim Flanagan) arrived at the property before my wife and Realtor and had already completed his exterior inspection. Fully 3 hours later he was done and provided a written and emailed report. Thanks to him, we were able to identify some big issues (wet crawlspace and mold) which the HOA and seller are fixing. He also found out the dishwasher was shot and we were able to get an additional credit from the seller. They also completed a radon test. The results were negative, providing an increased sense of security in our purchase. All this work done before I returned from my business trip. Great job!"

FAQs for asbestos testing projects in Chicago, IL

Asbestos appears as long, thin, or curled mineral fibers that are not visible to the naked eye under normal conditions. Homes constructed before 1989 are more likely to contain this material, so a professional inspection is essential. Because asbestos identification requires specialized techniques, having a certified inspector assess your property is the safest way to confirm its presence and protect your family’s health.

Free asbestos testing services do not exist. You can purchase testing kits online for $30 per unit, and these kits include lab fees, return shipping, consultation, sampling media, and the final results. The results from a kit are less detailed and accurate than those provided by a certified asbestos testing professional. Since collecting a sample exposes you to harmful fibers, hiring a professional is essential to ensure safety and accurate testing.

Receiving asbestos test results takes one to seven days, but different labs offer varying turnaround times. When expedited processing is arranged, the laboratory completes analysis within 24 hours; standard processing requires up to two weeks. Hiring a certified professional ensures that all samples are collected correctly and results are provided without delay, safeguarding your home throughout the process.

Home insurance doesn't often cover asbestos testing and removal. Many policies have a clause called a "pollution exclusion," which means they do not cover indoor pollutants like asbestos. However, your insurance company might cover something like asbestos siding removal costs if it is released due to things beyond your control, such as storm damage.

If a DIY project or accident in your home releases harmful fibers, you must pay for the test and removal.

Yes, you can legally inspect and remove asbestos in your house as long as it's a single-family home and not a multi-family unit. However, the EPA strongly recommends hiring an asbestos abatement pro since testing can be dangerous.

Pros have all the right tools and safety equipment, and you risk breathing in the fibers by taking samples yourself. They also know how to collect samples and safely dispose of materials properly.

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos-containing materials with a protective barrier to prevent the release of harmful fibers. It serves as an alternative to complete removal when full abatement is not necessary. Encapsulation costs between $2 and $6 per square foot, offering a cost-effective option that contains asbestos safely when applied by a certified professional.
