"We were very impressed with Joe Funderburk with Alpha & Omega Home Inspections for the inspection of our new home. Before the inspection, he communicated efficiently through phone, text, and email. During the inspection, he was very thorough and professional. He explained to us what he was seeing and doing, and he gave us a clear understanding of the condition of the house and property. In addition, he coordinated with a termite inspector who did his inspection at the same time as Joe. We received the inspection report very promptly and it was very detailed with clear explanations and photos. Joe continued to answer our questions after the inspection as well. We highly recommend Joe Funderburk with Alpha & Omega Home Inspections!"

"I received the testing kit in just a few short business days with all of the necessary items to perform a quick test on the mold I had present in my home. I followed the easy directions and sent the tests back in. I got the results within 5 business days or so and they were very detailed. It was helpful to learn exactly what type of mold I was dealing with and at a low cost. Much cheaper and faster than what a lot of the local companies wanted to charge me! ($450) <br />"

"Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories, Inc. sent a package with 2 vials and instructions for collecting the samples.  I collected the samples as instructed, completed a questionnaire, and returned the sample vials as instructed.  A week or two later they sent the analysis.  Everything went as expected.  There were no problems. <br />"

"<p>The company was set up by our realtor.  The cost was a little higher than the going rate for home inspections, but we were told by our realtor that they were really good.  The guy came out on time and spent about 4 1/2-5 hours going over the house.  We felt with him going over everywhere we were getting our money's worth.  He printed a booklet on sight and went over his findings.  He said there was a little mold under the house in one area and suggested we do a DNA test on the mold to find out what it was.  this was at an additional $150.00.  With my husband's allergies, we decided to get them to test it.  We were told later that it wasn't the bad mold.  At the time, we were in a summer long drought.  We closed on the house and then the rain came.  Our house was so humid and my husband was getting sick.  We called a company to come and put down a vapor barrier.  When he did his inspection and the pictures he showed us, the mold was in 90% of the crawl space.  I asked if it happened when we had all the rain and he said this was about 2 year old mold and a common mold for our area.  PTP scared us into paying the extra $150 to have the mold tested.  Other pictures he showed us were the gaps in the duct boots coming to the house connecting to the inside vents.  There were large gaps to the crawlspace.  One picture he took a picture from under the house into our den through the vent.  There was white marks on the brick in the crawlspace which he called salt marks.  This is where water had been seeping for some time through the bricks.  He said in 2014, the previous owners had the same problem and called for him to inspect.  they decided not to do the work, but sell the house instead, without disclosing the moisture problem.  So this was a problem before this last rain after the drought.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Another thing that wasn't brought to our attention or put in the PTP inspection report, was that there was no 220 outlet for the dryer.  We found this out the day we moved in and had to get an electrician come run the line before we could put our dryer in.  The previous owners had a gas dryer.   <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /></p> <p>The exhaust vent in the hall bathroom was vented to the attic, we were not told this.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /><br /> <br /> <br /> <br />We are now having to pay 10,000.00 to have the crawl space moisture sealed and all cracks and vents properly sealed.  Bathroom vent properly vented to the outside.  We have lived in the house for less than 4 months and having to have all this work done to keep the house from being damaged and our health.  We thought we were doing right by getting a professional home inspector to come in and inspect everything that we could address with the owners before we closed on the house.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /><br /> <br /> <br /> <br />My husband and I are beside ourselves over this issue and the money we are going to have to pay out to correct a problem that has been a problem for quite some time.  We are scheduled in for the work to be done the week of Dec. 21st, but we are having to deal with the bad allergy effect for another couple of weeks.  The company doing the work told us we should have called them before we closed on the house and they would have inspected the crawl space free.  </p> <br />"

"If anyone has the unfortunate experience of ANY type of water damage call 24-7 Property Cleaning & Restoration. Our washer (on the second floor) malfunctioned and my wife came home to water coming out of our dinning room light! Dan, the owner of 24-7 Property Cleaning & Restoration showed up quickly, evaluated the full damage and once the drying process was complete he could insure we had no mold concerns through his moisture content testing! This situation could have been horrific had it not been for Dan and 24-7 Property Cleaning & Restoration (704) 612-4131!"

FAQs for asbestos testing projects in Charlotte, NC

Asbestos appears as long, thin, or curled mineral fibers that are not visible to the naked eye under normal conditions. Homes constructed before 1989 are more likely to contain this material, so a professional inspection is essential. Because asbestos identification requires specialized techniques, having a certified inspector assess your property is the safest way to confirm its presence and protect your family’s health.

Free asbestos testing services do not exist. You can purchase testing kits online for $30 per unit, and these kits include lab fees, return shipping, consultation, sampling media, and the final results. The results from a kit are less detailed and accurate than those provided by a certified asbestos testing professional. Since collecting a sample exposes you to harmful fibers, hiring a professional is essential to ensure safety and accurate testing.

Receiving asbestos test results takes one to seven days, but different labs offer varying turnaround times. When expedited processing is arranged, the laboratory completes analysis within 24 hours; standard processing requires up to two weeks. Hiring a certified professional ensures that all samples are collected correctly and results are provided without delay, safeguarding your home throughout the process.

Home insurance doesn't often cover asbestos testing and removal. Many policies have a clause called a "pollution exclusion," which means they do not cover indoor pollutants like asbestos. However, your insurance company might cover something like asbestos siding removal costs if it is released due to things beyond your control, such as storm damage.

If a DIY project or accident in your home releases harmful fibers, you must pay for the test and removal.

Yes, you can legally inspect and remove asbestos in your house as long as it's a single-family home and not a multi-family unit. However, the EPA strongly recommends hiring an asbestos abatement pro since testing can be dangerous.

Pros have all the right tools and safety equipment, and you risk breathing in the fibers by taking samples yourself. They also know how to collect samples and safely dispose of materials properly.

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos-containing materials with a protective barrier to prevent the release of harmful fibers. It serves as an alternative to complete removal when full abatement is not necessary. Encapsulation costs between $2 and $6 per square foot, offering a cost-effective option that contains asbestos safely when applied by a certified professional.
