"Willie is great, went outside of the original scope of the project to solve a few problems. Sources parts and even fabricated a new post in his shop and returned to install. A railing and fence repair pro. Five Star Steel earned 5 Stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

"In addition to the installation of a light, they also installed a medicine cabinet. Both needed some additional work- installation of a junction box and hole needed in a plastered wall; filling in of extra space around medicine cabinet rough opening. They also replaced some wood trim around a large tool shed. Job came out great. They were professional and conscientious to take care within my home. Tom and Mike did a very nice job."

"Excellent job! Started working with Archers in January/February and by early March projected was installed. They were able to meet our design requirements without a significant change in the price of the project. Very professional and easy to work with, I'd gladly recommend them to other AL customers."

"I have never had a better experience with a contractor than I have with AGGO PRO! They were not only professional, they were reasonably priced and very knowledgeable. Linda, their engineer is amazing to work with. She was patient and went over every step of our project. I had to get a structural beam replaced in our home which is not an easy task. She explained every aspect of the project as well as kept me informed throughout the entire process. They replaced the beam with minimal damage to the home and they kept everything clean ! It was a pleasure to work with AGGO PRO and I would most defiantly recommend them to others as well as hire them for other home projects I have in the future!"

"I received a few quotes from fencing companies. My husband and I decided to hire Flores Fencing. The quotes I received from the different fencing companies were pretty similar as far as cost but we decided to go with Flores Fencing because they were the only company that seem enthusiastic about getting our business. The other companies, which have been in business a lot longer than Flores Fencing, never even bothered with any form of follow up communication after they gave me the quote. Emanuel however, was great at communicating with me throughout the process and Wilfredo was great at addressing my questions or concerns about my project. The workers were efficient and after completing the installation of my fence and gate, they made sure they left my yard pristine. Wilfredo, who is one of the salesperson, came over to help the workers to make sure the work was completed in one day. He even took it upon himself to fix a gate that was not part of our project which he noticed needed a simple repair. The fence and gate they installed looks absolutely wonderful. I am so pleased! I highly recommend Flores Fencing!"

"These guys are AMAZING! Vladimir and his crew are reliable, respectful and professional. We were referred to them by a neighbor that had them build a new staircase and cable railings. When we decided to proceed with the project, we had already remodeled a major chunk of our house. They made sure to protect and secure the area where they were installing. Needless to say, an absolute pleasure to work with-thank you!"

FAQs for steel beams (structural) service projects in Chicago, IL

A steel beam weighs six to 12 pounds per linear foot, depending on its size and shape. That means a 10-foot beam rated at 10 pounds per foot tips the scales at 100 pounds. Commercial projects often use much larger members—some top 50 pounds per foot—so crews may need lifts or cranes to maneuver them safely into place.

On a new build, crews can slide a beam into an open frame in just a few hours. Replacing a beam inside a finished home takes longer—plan on two to three days—to shore up the structure, remove finishes, and work around plumbing or wiring. Your structural engineer will outline the steps, and you may want to stay elsewhere while the temporary supports are in place.

Yes—as long as a structural engineer signs off, swapping a load-bearing wall for a beam is a safe upgrade. A steel I-beam offers the best strength-to-size ratio and meets local codes with room to spare. Your engineer will calculate the load, specify the beam, and verify that the surrounding framing can handle the new setup.

Watch for rot, rust, cracks, or sagging—all red flags that a support beam needs attention. Water stains, uneven floors, or doors that stick can also point to trouble. If you notice any of these issues, call a structural engineer right away. Catching the problem early protects your home and can keep the repair bill from ballooning.
