"The team at HC Construction & Grading took on a major and challenging grading project at our mountain home in Dahlonega. We had several other companies come and look at the work and most were either asking a ridiculous price or afraid to take on the job. Once we hired HC they communicated very well and showed up when they said each week until the project was finished. The final results are better than we had imagined and we credit HC with seeing a better solution and executing it."

"Kenny was quick to respond when other companies would not and gave me a price I could not say no to. We had him clear our oversized lot next to our house, grade and lay a gravel driveway, and sod the whole area. Fast, fair, and efficient. 10/10 do recommend and will be using him next month to install landscaping around our new garage."

Small jobs welcome

"I'm sorry I don't have photos. I hired him to degrade parts of the property and extend the driveway about 200 ft with a 80 ft split to a second structure a small cabin. He removed 6 trees and quite a lot of brush. Spread gravel in the driveway split and extention. It was a great job at a very good and reasonable price. I have referred him to some neighbors in the area also. Never heard any disappointment. Thanks again Jake."

Small jobs welcome

"Hired Russ to regrade and add gravel to our Driveway. I asked him to remove some RR ties and replace those with 6x6 lumber to create the same small retaining wall at the driveway edge. The 6x6 work took a little longer than we expected so it was mid afternoon before he was able to get gravel and start spreading it around. Then it rained!!. Which made it much harder to get the job done. Russ and his helper got a bit wet, but finished the job, even with having to go get more materials. I liked the way he stuck with it until the job was done and I was happy. Highly recommended."

"This was my first ever experience with paving a driveway from nothing. All I had was mud and some rock. Fortner paving came to my house and did a one-on-one appraisal of the site, and then gave me the quote for the entire job. Within 1 day he already had crusher run ready and the equipment on-site to grade and remove old grass and other trash that was in the way of the new driveway. The crew came on-site and immediately started work clearing out the trash in the area where the driveway was going to be located, and they removed the debris back in the woods out of the way. Now, I have a new driveway, and I don't have to worry any more about getting stuck in the mud. Mr. Fortner made sure to keep in touch with me every step of the way. I feel very confident in recommended Ronald Fortner Paving, Inc. for your paving needs."

"The advertisement/special was for 1000 sq ft of carpet cleaning. At best, serviceman cleaned approx 500 ft. There were 4 areas not extremely bad that I wanted technician to pay special attention to. 2 of the 4 he did very well. The other 2 in hallway he was not able to do a good job at all. Once the carpet dried (1 day later), it was obvious that it wasn't done thoroughly. And the water marks persist which was one of the big reasons I scheduled this in the beginning."

"He answered my call right away. He worked around my very busy schedule. They installed Millings in my parking and walk ways and front culvert along the road for weed control! The crew was very polite and went above and beyond. I had a hard project that had lots of fences to work around and objects , and he did a great job getting everything packed in and was very reasonable with the price."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Clayton, GA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
