"Jerry and his team did a fabulous job on our basement egress window. Fantastic communication, before during and after the job. Excellent workmanship. Cleaned up very well after the big job. Flexibly worked with our schedule. Jerry even gave me advice on laying out our basement remodel (we are doing it ourselves) and gave me advice on materials and design. Totally happy. Would recommend C&J without reservation!"

Customers say: Quick response

"We had a complete kitchen remodel, including tearing down a wall between two rooms. The quality of work was excellent in each aspect of the job. Most notable was the excellent customer service. Frank kept us informed at each step. He provided great advice during the design process and also kept to our price range and style preferences. His clean up and thoroughness made the process as minimally disruptive as possible."

"Great communication, they listened and understood our vision. Everybody was very knowledgeable and skilled, they made practical suggestions that did not only save us money but make the end result much more practical and espectacular; I saw they enjoyed their work and care about craftsmanship; as a result, my house looks like those you see in the magazines. They worked one zone at the time, so we could stay home during the remodel, and they also adjusted to several set backs with the kitchen cabinets/appliances, and our schedule with the kids and pet. Would recommend without any reservation. Thank you Joe, John, Nick, Kevin, Mike and Dominic."

Self employed carpenter. I'm in my 60's and have a lifetime of experience. I work with another master carpenter. If you are looking for a cheap fix, we are not for you. We do quality work and expect reasonable compensation.\n\nHere is a short list of some of the things We do. Remodeling and renewing older homes. Cabinets. Trim work, including baseboards, casings, & crown moulding. Custom woodwork. Doors. All phases of painting. Deck construction and repairs (NOTE: Composite decks are nearly 40% more expensive than PT pine. Not only is the material more expensive, but the framing is more involved than a standard PT deck thus further increasing the cost). Laminate flooring. Hardwood floor repair. Drywall & taping. Small jobs welcome

"We highly recommend "The Hired Hand" (formerly named B Squared Home Solutions). They made numerous repairs to our deck, and completely refinished it. The deck is 30 years old, and now looks as good as new. Also, they repaired a set of wooden stairs leading from outside into our basement. I thought they were beyond repair, but are now fully functional. They started the project on the date promised, kept us apprised of their progress, and finished the job on time and at the quoted cost. We are very pleased with the quality of their work, and plan to have them do future projects."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Clifton Park, NY

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
