"The day I called him for an estimate, he was over here by that evening. He measured the garage, told me why all my shingles had curled (heat buildup in a windowless garage with no ventilation), and suggested upgraded shingle type compared to the 3-tab shingles I had on my house. I had only a set amount of money for this project so I said I couldn't afford the vents. His estimate was pretty standard to the other estimates I got and did not include the vents. He gave me a start date of the following Monday and said he and his man could do it in one day.

He showed up on time early that morning and never even knocked on my door, so I had no idea they were out there. They completed the job on time and on budget. But to my surprise, he had installed two roof vents for me at no extra charge. I also had mentioned that I needed to trim some low-hanging tree limbs by my street, and he had trimmed them for me with a chain saw! WOW! I can't promise he'll do extra things like that for everyone but it should tell you a lot about his work ethic and character. It also made his bid a better deal for me.

Since they had gone by the time I got up (I work nights and sleep days which he knew), I had to go out and look at the garage roof to see if it was done, and I was SO pleased to see all he had done for me. I called him that night and told him his cash was here since he let me sleep. He picked it up 2 days later. There are definite perks to living in a small and friendly town.

The work number given with his information is his phone number at home, which is in his ad. His cell is also listed in bigger type, 855-8637. He advertises in our local town paper and has signs on his work truck. This is a local man doing this type of work on his own for 20+ years here in our town. I definitely recommend him."

"They were recommended by Sears to remove an old Jenn Air stove and
replace it with a new Jenn Air stove. We have an old house and there is
no way to install an overhead fan/vent for a stove, and the old stove
was installed in the early 1970s. So we had no other replacement
choices. In short, due to a wide variety of problems related to the
prior installation being done wrong, differing counter top heights on
either side of the new drop-in stove (old one was free standing),
sloping floor, and new stove design affecting installation, there were
multiple problems. It took far longer than anticipated to get the new
stove in place; and , in spite of many efforts (they have installed
several hundred stoves for Sears) it just wasn't right. They agreed to
return to make some changes to get it right. We ordered another part
and they returned to install if and came up with a solution to improve
the installation which meant a customized solution - and they developed a customized solution, came back
and reinstalled the stove. And it looks great.
"

"s It went very well. The contractor and employees were very friendly. He let us know at every turn what was going on and what the roof needed. His pricing is very reasonable. If we need another job taken care of Worland Creek Builders is the only contractor that we will call. At the end of the job, they cleaned up nicely.
"

"This project was a barn remodel adding a 31' X 18' horse shelter, Double doors to the front of the barn, and two sliding doors to two open bays on the side of the barn. OSB was applied to the roof with metal roofing on top. Rod is an exceptional builder with many years of experience.
He is a perfectionist who takes pride in his work. He is able to work
from blueprints or a rough sketch depending on what you want or need.
This was not my first experience with Rod's work as five years ago he
constructed a 40' X 60' pole barn on another property of mine. The
building also had a 16' X 60' lean to on one side.
Rod is the best, most honest, and most reliable builder I have ever encountered bar none.
"

FAQs for garage building service projects in Columbus, MT

A well‑constructed, properly permitted detached garage adds between $12,000 and $36,000 to a home’s resale value. Buyers appreciate the secure parking, extra storage, and flexible workspace, so appraisers often bump the property’s value accordingly. The exact return depends on the garage’s size, finishes, and how well it matches the main house, but most homeowners see a strong ROI when the build meets local codes and passes inspection.

Yes—once it meets local building codes and you secure the proper permits, a detached garage can be converted into living space. Finishing the interior, adding climate control, and ensuring safe egress effectively increase your usable square footage, though it may not always count toward the official listing. Skipping permits can trigger fines and even force you to undo the work, so always clear plans with your city first.

Most homeowners policies cover a detached garage under the “other structures” provision, but coverage limits vary. Review your declarations page and ask your agent how much protection you have for separate structures. If the limit is lower than the garage’s replacement cost, you can raise it for a modest premium. Confirming the details now prevents headaches if you ever need to file a claim.
