"I filled out a form on Angi about an AC problem, and Calfo was one of the first to call. The call was initially a little bit confusing because they answered the phone by name-dropping HomeAdvisor, but not the name of their company, until I asked where they were calling from. Regardless, my AC wasn't working and they were the first one to get a technician to my location. The technician quickly made a determination as to the repairs to be made. The price was significantly higher than I expected for a simple capacitor replacement, but it was Friday afternoon and it was hot outside. The technician showed me the estimate on their iPad, then clicked through to another screen where I signed. I asked the technician to perform the immediate repairs necessary and give me a quote for full system replacement. Before getting my quote for full system replacement, the technician asked me to fill out my information on a form. As I was filling out the form, I saw that SSN was being asked for, and noticed that it was a credit application. This was not made clear to me before I was asked to fill it out. I declined to fill it out further because I was not interested having a hard-pull on my credit report when I simply wanted a quote. When I received a signed copy of the invoice for the repair work performed (which I didn't get until I asked about it the next day), they had included an additional charge that wasn't mentioned in the price I was given in person, and one that I certainly did not see when I signed. Despite this, my signature was inserted on the bottom of this electronically generated form. Given my experience with their repair service, I am not going to hire Calfo for replacement of my AC system. Also, their quote lists minimal detail compared to other quotes I have received. Quotes they provided don't have any details about the specific parts replaced, nor do they mention any particular brands or model of equipment. Their prices were also higher than price ranges others quoted, and given the surprise repair charges and lack of detail in the quote, I do not have a good impression of their honesty."

However -- I have seen houses go up faster than my little bathroom updates were completed. First the estimate -- Bob came out right away and promised me an estimate that night or the next morning, but it was several days later that I received a not-very-professional estimate (I'm used to line items in an estimate so I know what the costs are... and I should have insisted on a time frame for completion). Next the glass (3 weeks became more like 6 due to issues with the first vendor and other unknown reasons. My guess is that the owner is not as organized as he could be and things fall through the cracks and were forgotten for a few days or more). That being said -- he was EXTREMELY responsive... no text or call went more than five minutes without being returned. He also was certain to make sure I was happy, replacing a few tiles I thought might be cracked and in general wanting to have a satisfied customer which I am. Steve -- who did the work -- was very friendly, punctual, and professional. Finally, I think his price was very fair and my bathroom went from looking like an afterthought to a showpiece. If time is not an issue, I'd hire Avalon again. If it is, I still might hire them -- but I'd get them to commit to a timeline and stick to it."
