"NextDay Inspect did a great job with my new construction home inspection. Being that the builder doesn't allow the homeowner to be the pre-settlement inspection (weirdest thing ever) I really depended on Michael from NextDay Inspect to be my eyes for the inspection. He was able to provide a detailed report with photos and suggestions. NextDay Inspect was also able to conduct a radon test on the same day after already completing the inspection. Everyone I spoke with at NextDay Inspect was very polite and easy to work with."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"As we neared our one year anniversary in our new home we asked several neighbors who they had chosen for a home inspection. Although they all said their inspectors were good, only CJR actually would go on the roof. Since we had concerns about our roof (after seeing more than half the neighborhood get new roofs this year) we went with CJR. I can't begin to say how happy we were with John and Joe. They arrived on time and split up the duties of doing a very thorough inspection (it lasted over 3 hours). They found things we knew about and a lot that we didn't know about (like a small leak in the kitchen sink that showed up after they filled the sink up with water). Everything was tested to make sure it worked properly -- dishwasher, cooktop, oven, etc. All windows were opened to ensure they functioned properly (they found one wouldn't stay up). As for our roof, no hail damage, but they provided pictures of a lot of installation damage. At the end of the inspection, they sat down with us and provided a detailed presentation with pictures identifying all the items they found. Before they left the report was in my inbox. They even took down all the model/serial numbers of appliances, furnace, a/c unit, etc and we got a report if there were any recalls. Because we're in a high radon area, we had them also do a radon test. We will be telling other neighbors about our great experience with CJR."

"<p>Homeworx provided a prompt accurate estimate of the services I desired.  On the day of the inspection, Rich Hall arrived on time and provided a very comprehensive inspection of the interior and exterior of my home.  He provided an electronic and hard copy of the inspection report.  He fully explained the deficiencies and how they should be remedied.  The radon inspection also went very well.</p> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Culpeper, VA

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
