"Mr. Ed Wise at E-Tex Foundation Repair in Gladewater, Tx (903-331-3278) said the procedure would take a total of three days, told me everything that needed to be done, and kept in touch.  He called the day before to tell me they were coming out the next morning.   He and the crew were very friendly, and worked quickly, efficiently, and professionally.  After digging out four pier holes, they laid cement and left it to dry through the next day.  He called the next day and let me know when they were coming out on the third morning.  They arrived on time and jacked the slab to re-level and shimmed with solid concrete blocks and plate steel shims.  Ground areas that had been lost were filled in with dirt and well-packed, and concrete pieces and dirt stabilized my driveway.  Everything was cleaned up from the work area, and I was extremely happy with the results.  I would recommend this company of very friendly, very competent people to everyone I know.  With the work guaranteed (with a transferable warranty) for 30 years, I have nothing but the best to say about the people and the services rendered.  Excellent communication from Mr. Wise beginning with my first email to the company for a bid through the completion of the job!

"The basement king was a pleasure to work with. His knowledge is unmatched in the Texas area for sure. I received multiple quotes and talked to multiple companies and he was the best. He's passionate about his work and the manner in which it's done. If he says something, it happens. An added benefit was their cleanliness. Usually a job site of this size and complexity is a mess, but not with the basement kings. 10/10!"

"I had been waiting 8 weeks for the pool company that put my pool in to give me an estimate for the concrete decking around the pool. The estimate was very high so I found Tom Smyrson from A to Z fence and concrete who came right over to check out the job and gave me a very reasonable estimate. He assured me the job would be done in 3 days and it was. That's over 1,000 square feet of concrete no short cuts. I am very pleased. Great crew that I would definitely hire again."

"Fernando, his son Frankie, and Jeb Kraft (substituting for a vacationing crew member) were excellent. Their experience, work ethic, and attitude were outstanding. Every issue that arose as they repaired work another company did several years ago was solved by Fernando. He always provided several options and we selected the best one for the situation. Because Fernando hand-dug the needed holes and trenches he had no problem when he encountered the main electric line several feet from where 811 had marked it."

"Robert and Glenn talk very fast and both mumble, so it is difficult to understand them. Each conversation has to be repeated so we can understand clearly what was to happen.

Previous foundation work by LevelCheck in 2002 paid $8,450.00 (22 piers outside) (7 interior piers) some piers were placed on concrete blocks; no i-beams were place which did not insure the integrity of the foundation. Since we've had severe movement inside and outside, cracks on ceilings, walls, window movement/broken, windows open with difficulty, as did doors, some doors did not latch and were crooked in the frame and there are cracks in the new siding, ?Hardiplank,? outside. (The previous company "LevelCheck" gave us a "Lifetime Guarantee" BUT ARE NO LONGER IN BUSINESS . Make sure whomever you choose to do your foundation, they have a good reputation and have been in business for a LONG TIME, AND SOLUBLE!!)  VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE LESSON!!

The total cost was approximately $37,000.00. BUT the first contract was $18,000, required a $10,000 immediate payment with a $4,000.00 check when piers are ?ready? and another $4,000.00 after the ?flowable fill material? (slurry concrete) is poured. (Giving a 10% discount off original quote before the $18,000) The 2nd contract required a $10,000 so already paid $20,000 and only into 5 hours of work. Another payment due on the 21st when they found more plumbing problems under both bathrooms. Of course, another payment was asked for when the plumber came. Glen ultimately wanted the final payment before the work was completed. We had never worked with a contractor before that wanted payment before the work was done. Really poor business practice. We were having work done through the week before Thanksgiving and several of the workers left town and went to Mexico. Work continued, but only with a couple workers.

I could never get a clear answer on whether they were going to go through the garage to access the load bearing wall. I asked several times. The foreman decided to dig from the back of the house and the midline over to that wall (then Glen told us he hadn't charged us for 6 feet of tunnel, which was included in the first contract.) How can we tell, other than what we see and hear? We certainly weren't going to crawl in the tunnels ourselves. In my opinion, that was a miscue between the boss and the foreman.

They worked through Nov. and part of Dec before they started to level the house. When they started working on the wall between the dining room and the kitchen, the wall went right through the ceiling a couple inches. The front door is still out of square, as are the front windows. They are still extremely hard to close. When I told Robert the floor was still not level he said, "I told you I couldn't promise everything would be level," Well, what is the point of paying to have the work done??

They were supposed to check the existing piers and shore them up, but when I continued to ask if they would lower the east wall, they said they had not found the previous piers. Whenever we would point out to Glen that we had already had a tunnel dug under the house before, or pipes repaired, or already had piers placed, he always had an excuse for why he "needed" more money. He had to have money to pay the plumber beforehand; he had to have money to pay for 2 cement trucks of slurry beforehand, he had to have money to pay his people; had to have money because he was going to Austin. Really? Just poor business!

After Christmas, they sent a couple men to backfill. They were supposed to place pvc pipe under the house to allow the slurry to be pumped under the house, They backfilled a 14 foot tunnel with no pvc and another 10 foot tunnel on the other side of the house without putting a pvc. They had had to stop work because of the rain. The next day when we noticed the tunnels filled and asked about the pipe they dug a little way on one side of the house and placed a pipe. It certainly was not as far into the tunnel as it had been dug. Then on the 14 ft tunnel no pvc. When they came to pump the cement truck hardly used all slurry, and certainly not 2 trucks filled for which we paid. When Mark asked Glen about it, he said he had given us other discounts. That wasn't the point; our concern is what about the 1 foot gap between the cement and foundation that didn't get slurry pumped up under the foundation?? I am sure within a short time we will have the dirt compacted and another gap between the foundation and the ground. Then we will have to pay another foundation company to level our house again.

We have had 3 or 4 friends come asking us who did our work, and we refuse to recommend them.

FAQs for concrete delivery projects in Edna, TX

The amount of concrete you need varies by project. One 80lb bag covers an area of about 2 square feet, for a slab 4 inches thick. Two 60lb bags of concrete cover an area of about 2 square feet for a slab that is 6 inches thick.

A truckload of concrete can usually hold a maximum of 10 cubic yards.

The cost of concrete per cubic yard depends on which brand you purchase, but usually costs about $110 for bags.

It takes about 41 bags of concrete to fill a cubic yard. Always plan to buy a few bags more than the exact required amount in case of mistakes.

To calculate the amount of concrete you need for a slab, you should find the cubic yardage of the area you will be filling. Just follow these steps:

  1. Measure the area in feet.

  2. Multiply length by width, and then by thickness.

  3. Divide the resulting number by 27 to find cubic yards.
