"They did a phenomenal job. A couple months later when I left Alaska, I got a call from a friend that my heating unit went out and pipes broke. Big Street Construction came out and handled things quickly and easily. They assisted me with dealing with my insurance and is the best in Alaska. They are all super friendly and so helpful! Very affordable. I'm unsure of the exazct cost as it was a few years ago but I just signed up and wanted to let everyone know how amazing this company is."

"We haven't decided to go with him. He seemed to be knowledgeable and know his business. He took a lot of time with us. He was very young so I was a little apprehensive at first. We were impressed with him. We liked the way he itemized his bid. It was a little high but we haven't received any other bids for a point of comparison. It took a little bit of time for him to get the bid back but it was obviously thorough. The bid was $15,000. It was about a month later after our meeting before we got the bid."

"Aaron's crew was absolutely fabulous to work with. They did amazing work and showed attention to detail. I would love to work with them again when I get ready to renovate my bathrooms and kitchen! Aaron is a very knowledgeable and busy person. He is very trusting of his personnel. He needs to oversee his subcontractors work a little more thoroughly (thus the "B"), however, his regular crew is very good."

"I have used them twice. They satisfy a particular market need and they provide lower costing workers. My friend says largely because they are utilizing union workers post hours. They can bid lower because they are using guys at least some of the times, who are supplementing union work. That basically describes the niche. They definitely bid under the others. The cost of labor is certainly competitive not to my surprise. Of course the material cost are all the same. As far as the quality of work I would not describe it as high end. It is more functional and proficient. The reason I called them back was because they bid low. There was a lot of finished work that needed to happen in order to meet the original objective just to make a conversion of a single family home into two apartments which involved adding a kitchen, finishing a storage space and making improvements to the renovation throughout. They did all the big stuff but there was a lot of little stuff. They were putting in a competitive bid and I was trying to save as much as possible. I didn't bring them to come back and do some work at home. I had some challenges with the door. They installed the door frame with an unconventional wall mount and I needed them to come back and correct it and they came back corrected it. It seemed to be sufficient but it still has a couple of new . that we work around. Another contractor probably would not have touched it because it wasn't the code specific. They are willing to consider unconventional requests. They did cleanup. Shawn the communicator and then he works with one guy . available."

FAQs for garage building service projects in Fairbanks, AK

A well‑constructed, properly permitted detached garage adds between $12,000 and $36,000 to a home’s resale value. Buyers appreciate the secure parking, extra storage, and flexible workspace, so appraisers often bump the property’s value accordingly. The exact return depends on the garage’s size, finishes, and how well it matches the main house, but most homeowners see a strong ROI when the build meets local codes and passes inspection.

Yes—once it meets local building codes and you secure the proper permits, a detached garage can be converted into living space. Finishing the interior, adding climate control, and ensuring safe egress effectively increase your usable square footage, though it may not always count toward the official listing. Skipping permits can trigger fines and even force you to undo the work, so always clear plans with your city first.

Most homeowners policies cover a detached garage under the “other structures” provision, but coverage limits vary. Review your declarations page and ask your agent how much protection you have for separate structures. If the limit is lower than the garage’s replacement cost, you can raise it for a modest premium. Confirming the details now prevents headaches if you ever need to file a claim.
