Comment: My wife and I are buying a new house built in the early 1960s with hardwood floors. The floors have always had carpet covering them so I assume they are in fairly good condition. The color is similar to straw (very light brown) and we would like them to be a darker brown. I measured the living room and dining room and it came out to around 450SF plus stairs. The floors are currently covered in carpet so that would have to be removed and disposed of as well. I'm wondering how much it would cost to have the floor refinished as well as how long the entire project would take before we can walk on the floors. Is it worth using water-based or oil-based stain? Thank you for your help.
