"Tar Heel Basement Systems has done both a foundation stabilization and then a year later, crawl space encapsulation. The James, James, Jeffery, and Terell team was definitely the 'A-Team'. They were all great to work with, pleasant, efficient, and hard-working, and went above and beyond in the quality of their work and attention to detail. Thank You 'A' Team!!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Lester didn’t give me the highest or lowest estimate. What he gave me was a very thorough walkthrough of what needed to be done and how he would accomplish it. He was well organized and has great communication skills. I was very pleased to do business with him and hope I can hire him for more work in the future."

"They seem to be pretty reliable. They fixed the problem for a while. It was ok. It was fine. For what they do, they do fine. We later had the crawl space encapsulated, and that was much better, because it protected the crawl space from animals and all that stuff. They took care of the water problem."

"We had found a better value for termite protection with a smaller, local company so Terminix came out for an 'exit inspection'. A team of 4 arrived to include the local manager, two technicians and a brand new trainee. During their exit inspection, Tommy noted rodent activity in our crawl space. We had already put out rodent baits ourselves that didn't seem to be as effective as hoped. The activity was determined to be something larger such as a raccoon or similar. Even though we were not a pest control customer, Tommy and his crew began investigating while we watched. They discovered a live possum under the crawl space barrier tarp. The critter had crawled up a drainage pipe and made a nest under the tarp. In a demonstration of excellent customer service, the brand new trainee donned gloves, cornered the unhappy critter and bravely grabbed her by the scruff for removal. At my request, he did not destroy her but released her into a field well off the property. Though we may no longer be a termite customer, we signed a pest control contract on the spot and Stephen did our first pest treatment. The efforts of the team, the consideration of the manager taking time to come along, the respectful way we were treated and the assertiveness of the new trainee convinced us. All our questions were answered and my concerns addressed. We will be covering the exposed drainpipe accordingly. Compliments to Jason, Stephen, Tommy and the new trainee we dubbed "Possum"."

"<p>The work started in the master bathroom.  We had a very 70’s blue tile bathroom that measured about 12’ x 4”. it could only accommodate one user at a time comfortably.  Attached was a large unused vanity room.  Dennis designed a new bathroom that offered a tiled walk-in shower, double vanity, closet for the toilet and a closet.  The fixit crew demoed the entire bathroom from floor to ceiling and in about 2 weeks we had a very spacious and modern master bathroom with all the bells and whistles of a modern high end home.  The shower was moved, the toilet was moved, ceiling vents were installed and vented outside, 6 new can lights including 2 in the walk-in shower, new tile floor and shower, new double vanity and AC vents were rerouted. The job was finished with a custom built stained double door and it created a very impressive entry into an entirely remodeled room. We are very very happy with not only the quality of the work but also the design concept Dennis came up with.  I should also mention that all the work was done in our bedroom.  The guys took the time and steps necessary to make sure it was cleaned every day so as not to disrupt our lives.  This was an A+ job in price, quality and the crews overall awareness of the fact that the job was in one of the most important areas of the home.</p> <p>Next Dennis, Mike and Tommy went to the other side of the house and began removing all the wood paneling. This was a big job.  4 rooms were remodeled from the floor to the ceiling again.</p> <p>In these rooms there was woodwork that was original to the house.  The crew carefully removed all the wood trim and reinstalled all of it without any damage.  very nicely done.  In the great room the Fixit crew installed (including wiring) 12 can lights, 1 ceiling fan, finished the drywall, refinished and painted the ceiling, installed new crown molding and baseboards, painted the walls and trim, installed blinds and installed nice engineered hardwood flooring. The same was done in the mudroom, mudroom bathroom and laundry room.  These three areas all had new heavy-duty vinyl floors installed as well as light fixtures, steel exterior door and frame, dryer vent routed outside, crown molding and baseboards installed, 4 light fixtures and new laundry room countertop with large stainless farmhouse sink installed. </p> <p>Once that area was completed the work moved outside where Dennis and the crew demolished a very old wood staircase at the back door and rebuilt it from the ground up.  The entire staircase with landing were built on sight with a extra step added.  That extra step makes a big difference.  While outside the crew rebuilt our crawl space access door and matched the board and batten on the siding. Again, nicely done.</p> <p>Dennis and the guys also installed a new guest bathroom counter top with two sinks and fixtures  and at the end of the job blew 10” of new insulation into the attic.  All told the Call MrFixit crew was here working in my home for just over a month.  I never had a single problem with the crew or the quality of the work. The scope of the work was considerable. The Fixit crew made our house into the home we now have.  It was worth every dime, was finished early and cost less than we had budgeted for.  Almost anything you would call a contractor to do to your home was done here.  These guys are true skilled tradesmen.  </p>"

"Original responsiveness from the estimator was excellent.  She was very professional and came out the same afternoon that I made the call to Cleggs.  She called her office while she was still at our home and we scheduled an appointment for the technician to treat the yard.  The technician did not show up during the appointment window.  I called the office and was contacted by a supervisor or manager who said that he would get a technician and they would arrive to do the treatment within the hour.  The manager came with a technician and treated the yard.  He said the no show was caused by a problem with the scheduler and spoke poorly of the staff.  Very unprofessional.  I paid for the service by check and asked if I needed to provide the Angies List coupon to get the discount.  He told me that I did not and deducted the discount from the price.  Within the 30 day guarantee window the ants returned so I called and scheduled an appointment for the re-treatment.  The staff was very professional.  On the morning the service was scheduled I received a phone call confirming the appointment time and the desired service from the same manager who treated the yard previously.  No one showed up to do the treatment so I called the office.  They were very elusive and said that they would contact the manager and get back to me.  Eventually another technician came and treated the yard.  He explained that the manager didn't show up for work that day and evidently quick the job with no notice to Cleggs.  Then I received a bill from Cleggs for the amount of the Angie's list discount.  When I called the office the person was very abrupt and said that I needed to give the coupon to the technician at the time of service.  I was not able to re-produce the coupon after the fact.  After several phone calls and much discussion she finally agreed that the discount would be honored if I was able to send a receipt showing the handwritten application of the discount by the technician.  Cleggs has operated in this area for many years. I hope this experience was a series of unfortunate incidents. <br />"

FAQs for foundation, basement or crawlspace waterproofing / encapsulation projects in Fort Bragg, NC

The most affordable way to waterproof your basement is with interior methods like waterproof paint, costing between $1 and $8 per square foot, or silicate concrete sealers priced at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, these solutions are only suitable for certain issues. If your basement moisture is due to more serious problems like a cracked foundation, you'll need more extensive (and costly) repairs.

Absolutely! Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment that can increase your home's value. By keeping your basement dry and free of moisture problems, you protect your home's structural integrity and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Plus, taking proactive measures now can prevent costly water damage repairs down the line.

The time required to waterproof a basement depends on the selected method. Some approaches to interior waterproofing, like paint or sealant, can be completed within a day. Installing new drains or weeping tiles will need at least two to three days of labor. Any forms of exterior waterproofing that require you to excavate land will require an additional three days of work to prepare the ground.

Yes, basement waterproofing can significantly increase your home's value. A dry, leak-free basement is a strong selling point for potential buyers, enhancing your property's desirability and market price. Investing in professional waterproofing not only protects your home's structural integrity but also ensures a healthier living environment by preventing mold and mildew growth.

Waterproofing both the interior and exterior of your basement offers the best protection against moisture. Exterior waterproofing stops water from penetrating your foundation, while interior methods manage any moisture that does enter. If you must choose one, exterior waterproofing is generally more effective, as it prevents water from reaching your home's interior in the first place.
