"The service, scheduling and communication was great! I’m not entirely in love with the gravel we got but I think I misunderstood and it doesn’t have anything to do with J&K"

"My yard was the eye sore of the neighborhood with overgrown weeds, shrubs and yard waste. EJ’s team of three spent six hours making my lawn look great and I received admiration from my neighbors with the job they performed. Many thanks to EJ and the team who performed my service. They were very friendly and professional."

"Dominion Granite prepared and installed our new kitchen countertops. We worked with Christian and highly recommend both him and Dominion Granite. Christian made our visit an efficient one, clearly explaining the options and process and patiently answering our questions. He made good recommendations regarding the proper angle of cut for our island, and we could not be more pleased with the result. He even found a way to make good use of the scrap created by the sink cut out so we could use it in our laundry room. The installation went smoothly, as well - all of our countertops are beautiful and functional. We definitely recommend Dominion Granite."

"The design process with Timothy was very pleasant and professional.  He provided choices for plantings and helped me select the most appropriate.  There was a long wait for implementation, which was not unexpected.  An implementation date was finally given but nobody showed up, and nobody responded to my phone calls.  Eventually Timothy emailed me and apologized for the problems.  Work finally began several days later.  The crew, headed by Brandon, did an excellent job.  However, they were often delayed waiting for material or equipment to be delivered. <br />"

"I called JK Enterprises on Tuesday and requested delivery of 10 cubic yards of double shredded hardwood mulch for Friday delivery. Left instructions with the receptions who took my order to have the delivery driver dump the mulch in a specific location in our driveway. Received an email containing the invoice with my noted instruction within 1 hr. Mulch was delivered ~ 8:30 am Friday morning and dumped in the correct spot. I've bought bulk mulch in bulk from several vendors over the last 13 years. This was the highest quality material, $7.00 less per yard (paid $17.00/cubic yard) then next cheapest vendor of from whom I have previously bought from several times in the past, the mulch contained ZERO extraneous material, and delivery is FREE for 10 cubic yards or more. At the time of placing the order the receptionist told me that there would be a an additonal 5% fuel charge ($8.00) and 5% VA taxes ($9.00). Overall an excellent experience."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Front Royal, VA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
