"I gave them a 5 star review, because it was the max under this review process. However they deserve 6 stars for the work that was performed. We hired Patrick and his team for three projects. One was to expand our entertainment space underneath our deck in the backyard. Two was to install new sod and three was to install a new sprinkler system in our front yard. All projects were completed beyond our expectations. Patrick was very responsive to our needs and his team work extremely hard. The projects were done on-time and on-budget. I highly recommend his company. "

"Johnny was timely in coming to see what needed to be done and giving an estimate. Once we hired him, Johnny and his crew came out a day later and began the project. It took one week to complete the project, one day for grading, one day for pouring and forming the concrete driveway, and three days curing time for the concrete before he removed the forms. His work is beautiful and he did a wonderful job cleaning up the area once the job was complete. We definitely recommend him and plan to use him again on other projects. "The team at HC Construction & Grading took on a major and challenging grading project at our mountain home in Dahlonega. We had several other companies come and look at the work and most were either asking a ridiculous price or afraid to take on the job. Once we hired HC they communicated very well and showed up when they said each week until the project was finished. The final results are better than we had imagined and we credit HC with seeing a better solution and executing it."

"My driveway was about 100 yds long, 20ft at the top and going to 10 wide. The appraiser come out and gave my a quote. I new it was a good price so I told him to go ahead. The professional way he handled the bid was great. About a week to 10 days later as he told me, he had a crew at my home at 7:30 AM. Thy tore all my old asphalt out smoothed the driveway and hauled all the old pavement away.  <br /> Then then packed the drive and laid rebar and began pouring . The labors they sent were the most competent concrete layers I have seen. They said yes sir  no sir and thank you at every question or statement made. The drive was completed and I now have a beautiful drive. I recommend this group to any one wanting a new drive. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Gainesville, GA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
