"I couldn't be happier! I did not know the location of my cesspool, and wanted it serviced while it had last been at least 5 years since it had been pumped. Two gentlemen arrived exactly on time, and went to work to locate the cesspool. This was truly not an easy task-- pipes appeared to go towards the back yard, however in the end were located in the front. The Foreman even entered an old accessory stairway where the pipes exit to look more closely-- had to use a small ladder to go through access way to a large crawl space over old stairs to the basement. There were no outside vents and they used a metal detector to find the tank. When they located a tank, they didn't stop there. After some investigation the foreman was convinced it was an overflow tank, and he set out then to find the main, which was eventually located a distance away under landscaping bushes. He was diligent and determined-- I truly believe some may likely have stopped at the first tank, especially while it had taken so much time and effort to find it. They then installed 2 tubes with caps for future easy access, and pumped and treated the systems. They even washed off the surrounding grass and bushes-- I never would have thought of that. The gentlemen were friendly and professional, and very hard working. The foreman even kindly educated me a bit on the system, and what one should do, what types of tanks I have, etc. In the end, they spent a good three hours at my home, applied the %10 discount from Angie's List, and I believe the final cost of the service was more than fair. Thank you! I am very happy, and would highly recommend Priority Cesspool. I will definitely have them back for continued future maintenance. <br />"

"We were extremely happy with the work performed by H&amp;M. Moises, Hector and crew were courteous and did whatever needed to please us. They did most of the renovation in our condo......painting, installation of bathroom cabinets, sink, installed tile floor, etc. They also installed vinyl flooring in our kitchen, living and dining rooms. They had a plumber replace our heating baseboard, I would highly recommend H&amp;M if you want excellent work done!!"

"I can&apos;t say enough good things about Jimmy- He responded to an emergency sewer backup & when he was here he advised me of the urgent need to replace a VERY old basement slop sink with rotting plumbing (I didn&apos;t even realize it) He installed the new sink, reorganized the piping, installed new cutoff valves, changed a bunch of other hoses, etc. He is prompt, courteous, neat & reasonable. What a guy!!!"

"Ed responded to my home at 9:00 AM as promised. By now, I had 5 other waterproofing companies recommended by either Home Advisor or Angies List over for estimates and was fairly used to the routine. A big book carried by the salesman touting their particular organization on BBB, Home Advisor, Angie's List Google, Yelp, etc...Then an examination of the basement and in a few cases, the exterior of the house. Then came the "doom and gloom" part of the presentation... The majority of the salesmen would educate me on Hydro-static pressure and the danger it presented to my house. Evidently, we were living in a clay pot filled with water that was constantly apply pressure and attempting to enter my house through cracks in the foundation. I was also reminded of the constant rise in the "water table" in my area (Malverne). The only resolution to this dilemma was apparently to dig a perimeter ditch on the interior of my basement walls, install a "french drain" or some similar variation of plastic tubing with perforated holes, install a sump pump ( or 2) and seal in the drain with concrete. The damage to the "finished" basement would have been substantial and MY responsibility to make whole again! :( . Some variance in the pricing was based on the amount of perimeter suggested to be covered. From either the one wall where the water was coming in to the whole basement to prevent future occurrences... From $5000- $13,000. Again, NOT INCLUDING my cost to repair the damage to my sheet rock walls, baseboard and baseboard heating repairs... Add another $3-3500. Only one contractor suggested sealing the wall on the exterior which involved excavation , hydro-static cement to fill the cracks, Karnac tar, a membrane and a vapor barrier for $5,600. Enter Edward from E & M Waterproofing... No big book, 5 minutes in my basement and and a quick look outside. He informs me that I should dig out the dirt by the casement window approximately 20 inches down and back fill with gravel six inches from the sill. I also installed a new plastic shield above said window. I asked him about all the "doom and gloom" scenarios that I had already absorbed over the last week and he stated that since my leakage was event driven (Rain), he did not believe that I had water coming from underneath my house. The water table in my area HAD NOT risen and that the installation of "french drains" would be useless and ineffective in my case. The kicker was when he found my sewer trap and pointed out that I had "a hole in my foundation" where the pipe went into the ground. If my house was indeed taking on water, this would have been the first place I would have seen it!. It was dry as a bone. He also, gave me an estimate ($3,500 ) to seal the outside wall if necessary ( for my peace of mind, just in case). He did not charge for his advice and told me that he had 10 more estimates to complete knowing that he might only get 4-5 jobs due to his honesty. Needless to say, I followed his instructions that day (Mid-August) and have not had a drop of water since then. All in all, I would highly recommend E & M Waterproofing to anyone with any kind of water issues in their homes. I felt a little bit like Diogenes the Cynic until I met Edward, who has restored some of my faith in mankind... :)"

"We purchased a beach house that had an open French drain and 2 sump pumps in the basement. We spoke with several contractors, none of whom diagnosed why the pumps were running continuously and why the sisterns were always bubbling up water onto the front lawn. ACM diagnosed the problem, explained to us what was wrong. They were the only people we spoke to who really understood what the issue was. They recommended several upgrades, installed the new basement floor and sump pumps. This fixed the issue. They completed the work on time and on budget. HIGHLY RECOMMNEDED "

"Water was backing up on the first floor. The job was completed in two trips. Reaching them and setting up appoint was easy. Person on phone was nice. They came to evaluate the next day telling me what they had to do. Office called to setup for work to be done. "Pipe clogged in basement which could not be reach". The following day they came out to cut a pipe was told clog was out side and was no clean out. The outside has three clean outs so and I have insurance policy for that so not trilled with the change in the answer. I did want a clean out in the basement so happy that was done. After they left the problem was not fixed called office and they sent someone right out to finish the job. I did not find out what the issue was that required a second trip but again work was completed and has been fine and I have my clean out. Note there is an extra credit card percentage fee that was not told on the front end. I did not ask if there was but also was not told until work was completed. I would hire again but would ask alot more questions."

"These guys are great! Steve came out to provide a quote which was very fair. He described the process and what I can expect afterwards - a dry basement. The crew came out as scheduled and worked cleanly, diligently, and exactly how Steve described: A trench was dug around the inside perimeter of the basement, filled with rock and a pipe w/holes in it to allow water to be captured, and holes drilled into the cinder block to allow water to exit. 2 sump pumps were installed (1 w/battery back up), and they filled in my existing sump pit (it was not properly placed). The exit/drain pipes were run in the trench and up the wall and exit the house. Everything was cemented over. During the work, Giovanni did an excellent job keeping me apprised of the progress. After the work was done, Giovanni went over the work done with me. This set up is way better than what I had. The 2 pumps are very quiet ... a soft hum when activated. I am very excited to have a dry basement - no humidifier (Giovanni explained one is not needed ... and best not to have being it most likely will pull moisture into the basement). No more mold! I highly recommend having any damp basement issues resolved by United Waterproofing!"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Garden City, NY

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
