"Chimney Cricket was very responsive when we first called. The person who came to clean and inspect the chimney was very professional. I was very pleased at that point. They even came quickly to install the new liner. And since the air is much cleaner, I can only assume that they did an adequate job on this. However no one called as we requested to let us know that the technician was here so my husband could run home (they could access from garage), they left no paperwork to let us know what they did, our garage door handle broke off and they just left it there and made no mention of it to us. When later I called to ask for paperwork and a receipt I was told that they could not process my credit card for 2 weeks (which means that my credit card info would be sitting on someone's desk for 2 weeks). The bookkeeper also told me "There is only so much I can do" something that should be said to a boss, not a customer. After 2 weeks I had to call again and ask for the warranty and paperwork regarding this $1,700 liner. I finally received the warranty after 3 weeks. And during all this we called and asked to speak to the owner who never called us back. I actually think they do a good job but I want someone who is easier to deal with."

"I thought personally, I?ve had other chimney sweeps that seemed to do a more thorough job than he did. I don't think I would use him again. They did alright. Other chimney sweeps seemed to be more meticulous relative to the examination part. He did the job okay. I can't say he didn't do the job right. I just felt that other services seemed to be a little more meticulous and got into more of a detail than he did. 

The work was average. The cost was reasonable. It was a reasonable fee. He was very responsive. He was a good communicator and right on time. My concern is, it's important to get a very thorough inspection because if they miss something than your house could burn down. To me, cleaning should be the easy part. If you get in there, you get the equipment and clean it. Like how meticulous are you in terms of really making sure that nothing a miss."

I called for an estimate and made an appointment for 9:00 am on Saturday, Nov. 15.  John showed up about 8:15 with his 2 young workers who checked the chimney in the basement and then went on the roof.  The chimney had some missing bricks but other than that, needed nothing... the liner was in fine condition.  John told me they could do the job immediately for $785.  I said, how about $750 and he said ok.  They were there for about 40 minutes, re-cemented the missing bricks and put stucco all the way around the chimney. 

I made a check out to John Christman Chimney Repair but was told I had to make it out to him directly so I had to rip up the check and make out a new one. 

I really had only wanted an estimate since I had no idea if that was a fair price but felt I was caught off-guard and agreed to have him do the job.  After he left I decided that the price seemed very high for the amount of work that was done.  I tried to stop payment on the check but it was cashed IMMEDIATELY.  The next day I called a few other chimney repair places and they told me that the price seemed high for the amount of work that was done.

I suppose the lesson learned here is ALWAYS get at least 2-3 estimates before committing to having the work done.

"Two gentlemen arrived, very courteous and professional.  I escorted one gentleman to the furnace area to investigate what would be cleaned.  I was amazed to see what I saw!  Soot (looking more like crumbled dirt and sand) nearly filled the flue; solid evidence there was a serious and potentially unsafe problem in that side of the chimney.  The other gentleman shared that he'd go to the top of the chimney to advise me of the condition.  He also took pictures on their phones so I could see the condition above.  There was no cap on the furnace chimney (I had one on the fireplace chimney).  He also looked into the fireplace chimney which I greatly appreciated.  One gentleman advised me of the cost of the repairs, I agreed to the cost, and they began working.  These gentlemen were outstanding; demonstrating great concern for the safety of my home.  I would not hesitate to use them again.

I was only expecting to get my chimneys cleaned and then they recommended I get the caps and spent more and I guess I needed the chimney caps, as well."
