"Mudbug Pavers did an superb job in designing and installing a pavestone driveway in front of our house. Charlie is the owner of Mudbugs and was a pleasure to work with. We gave Charlie the basics of what we were looking for and he took care of all the details. He really knows his trade. Before we knew it, Charlie's expert crew arrived and we now have a beautiful pavestone driveway at a price we're happy with. He even referred us to a landscaper that he works with to help us with landscaping between the house and the driveway (turned out to be a great company as well). Can't say enough great things about Mudbug Pavers. <br />"

"The project went smooth. A lot of hard work in the summer heat, on hands and knees planting a lot of mondo grass. That part took forever and required patience. Old pea gravel was removed and replaced with a stone walkway and numerous other plants were installed, as well as top soil and mulch put down. I wasn’t at hope the first couple of days when the project finished, so Ray came by to water everything. After payment was rendered, he came back to make some small adjustments to account for water drainage after the 8 inches of rain fell in one day. Would definitely use again, as Ray takes pride in his work and wants to make sure the customer is happy."

"The installers arrived on time and explained what they would be doing. They consulted with me about placement of faucets and water spout. Several options were discussed and I settled on one. They worked as neatly as possible. When finished I was asked to inspect the work. They cleaned up after themselves when done. The work was done quickly with a few consults with me along the way, and I was very pleased with the results. <br />"

"A very good experience even when we ran into some problems. Showroom is nothing to get excited about, but we selected our stone and got a competitive estimate. Nice folks who asked lots of good questions to make sure we were making the right decisions. They followed up after the install to take care of 2 or 3 minor dents and dings, and some excess glue. The reason they were not an A overall was the fact they messed up on one of the corners in fabrication. While they agreed to fix it after the install, my wife and I simply could not tolerate the mess that would be made grinding down the corner. They should have caught this in the shop. By the way, I have already used them a second time, so I felt pretty good about the experience. I would use them again and have recommended them."

"The price was reasonable for what he did. I think I got him off Angie's List. This man is very honest in what he says, does excellent work, his sons are working with him, his daughter is learning the business so she can help out in the office, she was out there learning, they are very good, and she was out there helping them put the bricks on our 3 car garage. We had to take them down, got them repaired, and they put them back up. They are excellent, excellent, excellent, reasonable in price, cleaned up, and I was very, very excited with them. They spent a whole weekend out here. I have already referred them. I'm just glad we found him. The price was very, very, very reasonable for what he did. I give them high ratings and would use them again in the future."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Geismar, LA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
