"To be as fair as possible, it went relatively well at first until it came time for the finishing touches: I went with this company after getting 6 estimates because they were the only ones who wanted to correct the root cause of my water issue instead of just paving over it like most others. I paid a bit extra for this, which I was glad to do if it corrected the problem for good - $9,000 total for both the concrete and asphalt work. They showed up on time each day and showed up on the days they said they'd be there. Demo and initial grading went pretty smoothly. Although they didn't bring a jackhammer to break up the concrete, so I came out to assist and used my own diamond blade saw, sledge hammer and pry bar to save them some time. The not so good - Concrete: I paid extra for what I was told were "top guys" who were going to do the concrete work. It was a small 10'x7' pad, so a pretty easy job for experienced concrete workers. The problem is, I didn't get a top guy; he was unable to make it, so he sent an amateur in his place. This kid didn't bring the correct tools with him to make a simple straight expansion joint. When I asked for it to be created, he created it crooked and then left the job site. I had to have him called back to attempt to straighten it, as the concrete was already drying. I tried to communicate what I wanted, but he barely spoke English; I'm not sure he was even legal, but that's besides the point. It looks passable and the water drains in the right direction, but certainly not "top guy" quality work -- more like that of an apprentice. I was very disappointed and felt a bit deceived. Asphalt: Now this is where I expected them to shine, as I have a simple 500 sqft rectangle driveway. The water problem seems corrected, as they brought in 2" stones and extra base for the bad area. Prior to laying the asphalt, they spread a bit more base to strengthen the driveway. The not so good: Instead of a nice smooth surface, I have little ridges up and down my driveway created by the edges of the steam roller. When the sun hits the driveway, it looks utterly terrible. This should be easily corrected with a torch and roller. Second, the grading was not done well near the end of the driveway and I have a noticeable high area to which several neighbors have come up to me and made comments to the affect of "I didn't think a new driveway would look so wavy," and "why is there a big mound there?" Now every time I look at my driveway, I curse myself for paying so much money for this job. If I could post photos here, I would. I contacted Randy about this, but he will not give me a time when he can come by to look at it. He did not show or call on the day he stated he would. I have a feeling that since the final check has cleared, no one will be coming by since there is no financial incentive to. I hope I'm wrong. Where I come from, you do the job right so you don't have to come back. And if you do have to come back, you show up when you say you will, guarantee your work and make it right. Therefore, I cannot recommend this company and nor would I hire again. I believe it's situations like these for which Angie's list was created. I was a bit long-winded, but am trying to paint the proper picture for future readers to make an informed decision."

Customers say: Quick response

"Mitch and his crew were professional and it was easy to recognize the quality of a craftsman who has a healthy amount of â OCDâ . I worked in construction for a long time and I appreciate and recognize someone who takes pride in their work. The prep and application of the sealcoat was much better than the company we had used previously. Even the spray rig was meticulously clean which takes extra work to keep that professional look. I highly recommend Pavemaster and will use them next time I have to seal the driveway"

Small jobs welcome

"Otis and Mitch graded our horseshoe driveway plus expanded our vehicle parking. The gravel was delivered in an efficient time for the team to finish the SUPERB job. The guys were truly a QUALITY TEAM. They completed everything (including one additional hauling job) in the amount of time that was promised. The price was GREAT for the high quality job they achieved. The Bay to Bay Pavers Team are capable and willing to do other types of "Side Jobs". Sheryl (12/31/2024)"

"We recently had our pavers pressure washed and sealed by Premier Paver Restoration. I must admit it was a delightful experience! Not only were the "gentlemen" knowledgeable, professional and skilled, but they were very personable, respectful and highly courteous. John, Aden and Sam worked like a "well-greased" family machine assisting each other in the process. The family is very accommodating and even offered to reposition some damaged bricks. They also power washed our sidewalk! This is a family owned business that takes pride in their work. The operation was flawless from the very beginning when their brother Jason, also very courteous and respectful, presented us with a reasonable estimate for the job. He frequently checked in on the process to make sure that we were satisfied. This is a dynamite team! There is not enough that I can say about this company! No wonder they consistently are given Super Service Awards by Angi. You can not do better than hire Premier Paver Restoration! We recommend them highly!"

"Reviews of Second Nature Landscaping published in Angie’s List were good, so I hired the company despite a relatively high bid price. The project was finished in timely fashion and appeared to meet all expectations; however, less than a month after completion, a very bad leak developed around one of the sprinklers included in the lawn irrigation portion of the project. The leak worsened, requiring that I shut off an entire watering zone. I called to report the problem, but the owner abruptly told me to call back on Friday - four days later. When I called that Friday, the owner said they were very busy and I would have to wait at least three or four weeks. He told me to keep calling and “he would see.” Rather than hope for Second Nature Landscaping to stand by its work, I hired another company that very Friday. The succeeding company completed the repair the next business day, quickly, effectively, and at a reasonable cost."

"Unbelievable Experience!!! This company is top notch! From the professionalism exhibited by Chris to the impeccable work performed by the technicians. They truly care about doing a fabulous job and treat your floors as if it was their own. Attention to detail was amazing! We have had travertine stone floors for over 15 years with polishing and honing done by other companies in the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area that are highly regarded in the business, BUT they don't hold a candle to Marblelife. Marblelife exceeded my expectations and my floors look like you are walking right into a showroom. BEAUTIFUL!! They look better than they initially did when we first had them installed! I will definitely continue to utilize the services of Marblelife and highly recommend them. Don't waste your money/time with any other company. Marblelife is truly the best and knows their stuff. No only did they polish all of our travertine stone floors, but they even cleaned/scrubbed the front porch tile on their way out which was such a nice touch. AMAZING!"

"The team did an excellent job! Karina worked with us on designing. She called Sunshine 811 (FL digsafe)  to determine whether we have any wires in the backyard. As soon as the stones were delivered, it took the crew two days to finish the work. We called back and asked if they can do the sealing. A guy came next day and got it done! We paid $900 in addition which included the discount.  <br /> The only thing they did not do is move the sprinklers. We had to call a Rainbird specialist to move and cap them.  <br /> Overall, Karina, her husband and the team did an exceptional job! We enjoy our patio and will consider hiring them again if any additional work needs to be done. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Gibsonton, FL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
