"An unknown animal entered from chimney flue into the fireplace smoke chamber. The animal made noise above damper at night. I called the first company to check the chimney during day time and they found nothing. The next day morning the mason came and checked the chimney from roof. He installed a sturdy cap after he confirmed that no animal was there. Actually he missed the animal because he could not see the complete smoke chamber from roof. <br /> So something happened that evening. The animal was sealed inside and tried extremely hard to get out. It made very terrible scratching noise with the damper. <br /> I called 3 animal exterminators who claimed to provide 24/7 emergency service. Darren was the only person who picked up the phone call, while the other two companies had no response even after I left voice message. <br /> Darren came after 30 minutes with all the available traps except raccoon trap. To our surprise, it was a big raccoon inside the chimney. He went up and took off the rain cap, so that the raccoon could escape later that night. <br /> He and his buddy came back the next day to confirm that the raccoon has left. Darren brought a camera to check the smoke chamber while his buddy looked down from roof at the same time. They put the cap back, and found the trace of raccoon. They set up two traps on its path for 4~5 days and check them every morning. In the end, we didn't trap the raccoon. <br /> The total cost includes $400 for emergency service and $400 for the following service with 1 year warranty of no animal in chimney. The cost is higher than what I expect. But they had quick response, prompt action, and provided professional service. I recommend you call them if you need 'emergency service', since you may also find they are the only company that demonstrates 24/7 service. <br />"

"Ian went over the home from top to bottom and pointed out to us all problem areas.  He picked up on what turned out to be a major mold problem and many other issues.  He placed testing canisters and returned in 2 days to collect them to send off for radon testing.  He quickly provided a detailed report.  He was prompt, thorough, professional and good at explaining things.  We would use him again and would recommend him to others. <br /> <br /> UPDATE:  Ian performed a total of 4 home inspections for us from October 2013-January 2014.  Each time he was prompt and professional.  He is very personable and works well with customers, homeowners and realtors.  Don't hesitate to hire Ian."

"Fantastic. Dean came and gave me an estimate after looking through the whole basement to properly wrap and encapsulate all the asbestos piping and he said he would remove the asbestos in some areas if needed. He did not give me the lowest price but I believe he was the best value. He and his crew arrived exactly on time when scheduled and provided an effective and efficient job. He mentioned that there was some damage beyond the originally pointed out areas and he and his crew proceeded to take care of everything. Even on the way out he saw an area that probably would have been ok but insisted on re wrapping this spot noticed at the last minute. In addition, he and the crew also secured the horsehair areas of the piping to ensure we would never have to work on these pipes again, which was not something we had included in the pricing or even discussed. As previously a contractor myself (although not in this field) , it is rare when you hire someone who does the job and takes the initiative and the time to go above and beyond . By the way, the quote for the job was for everything so he and his crew did approximately 50% more spots without asking for any additional money. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for both the quality of the job and the professionalism of the crew, not to mention how personable they all were. If spending money on something like this can be a pleasure then this was it. Kudos."

"We recently hired Kascon LLC to remove asbestos from our home. The popcorn ceilings and all drywall needed to be removed per test results from an independent lab. We found the Kascon estimator, Keith Carroll, to be friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He came to our home, took measurements, explained the process, and answered all our questions. He then provided us a competitive estimate in a timely manner. Bill, the foreman, and his crew were respectful, accommodating, and thorough. They left our home clean and asbestos-free. We wholeheartedly recommend Kascon LLC!"

FAQs for asbestos testing projects in Glens Falls, NY

Asbestos appears as long, thin, or curled mineral fibers that are not visible to the naked eye under normal conditions. Homes constructed before 1989 are more likely to contain this material, so a professional inspection is essential. Because asbestos identification requires specialized techniques, having a certified inspector assess your property is the safest way to confirm its presence and protect your family’s health.

Free asbestos testing services do not exist. You can purchase testing kits online for $30 per unit, and these kits include lab fees, return shipping, consultation, sampling media, and the final results. The results from a kit are less detailed and accurate than those provided by a certified asbestos testing professional. Since collecting a sample exposes you to harmful fibers, hiring a professional is essential to ensure safety and accurate testing.

Receiving asbestos test results takes one to seven days, but different labs offer varying turnaround times. When expedited processing is arranged, the laboratory completes analysis within 24 hours; standard processing requires up to two weeks. Hiring a certified professional ensures that all samples are collected correctly and results are provided without delay, safeguarding your home throughout the process.

Home insurance doesn't often cover asbestos testing and removal. Many policies have a clause called a "pollution exclusion," which means they do not cover indoor pollutants like asbestos. However, your insurance company might cover something like asbestos siding removal costs if it is released due to things beyond your control, such as storm damage.

If a DIY project or accident in your home releases harmful fibers, you must pay for the test and removal.

Yes, you can legally inspect and remove asbestos in your house as long as it's a single-family home and not a multi-family unit. However, the EPA strongly recommends hiring an asbestos abatement pro since testing can be dangerous.

Pros have all the right tools and safety equipment, and you risk breathing in the fibers by taking samples yourself. They also know how to collect samples and safely dispose of materials properly.

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos-containing materials with a protective barrier to prevent the release of harmful fibers. It serves as an alternative to complete removal when full abatement is not necessary. Encapsulation costs between $2 and $6 per square foot, offering a cost-effective option that contains asbestos safely when applied by a certified professional.
