"We have used G & L Granite for two separate projects, first for granite kitchen countertops, second project for granite countertops for bathroom cabinets and a dressing table. The first project was done last  year as a replacement for a kitchen countertop that had been supplied by a previous granite contractor, that failed inspection. We contracted with G & L for a replacement granite countertop. G & L staff were friendly and helpful. When we explained that we needed the replacement to replicate the original slab, in order to maintain our color scheme and design, they were very cooperative. They did not have the color in stock, but searched the nearby suppliers, and arranged for the matching slab to be delivered to their yard for inspection within a few days. We inspected the slab on their yard and ok'd the fabrication to begin. Staff visited our home, took measurements, fabricated the slabs and delivered them exactly in the time frame promised. Installation was expert. One of our concerns was the "seam" that was necessary to join two long slabs. The designer worked with us to conceal the "seam", and the installer did a perfect installation so that it is not noticeable. The installer was courteous, friendly, expert in technique and worked fast. He took time to explain to us the proper care of granite surface. After the installation, G & L did a follow up call to see if we had any questions. We had a question about the sealant that was used. The owner stopped by our house a few days later and quickly resolved the question to our satisfaction. The second project consisted of granite countertops for bathroom cabinets and dressing table. Our experience on the second project was much like the first, very satisfactory. For the second project we had selected a unique and popular color of stone. G & L set it aside for us on their yard until we were ready for fabrication to begin. Again, each and every time frame promised by G & L Granite they met. The first phase of our bathroom countertops was right on time. In fact it was our tile contractor and plumbing contractor that caused our schedule for phase two to slip by almost three months. G & L was patient with us, stored our remaining slab at no additional charge. When we called them to tell them we were ready for the last countertop to be installed, they had it measured, fabricated and installed within a week. Again very expertly, even though it meant a special trip to install the last piece. All of the countertop work was done expertly and is very beautiful stone. We highly recommend G & L Granite. <br />"

"Tim Beckham is the name of the owner and he's a great dude. It's friendly service and they bend over backwards to accommodate me. They had to bring out a bunch of extra hoes so they wouldn't tear up my yard with their truck and they did that with no problem. They're very knowledgeable and they taught me a lot about my own system. They were happy to explain everything to me that they were doing and the parts of the system. I suggest that people don't call anyone else but them."

"The first quote that Stop Leak Waterproofing LLC gave us had some options on it so we went back and they detected some other issues like the gutter issues so we got a gutter company out and then we went back and we didn't think we needed some of the work and they didn't think we needed some of the work quoted and so we just got back from them this back. Their quote is probably more than a middle for the work they will be doing. They were professional, they explained the work and they took time looking at the work that needed to be done. We have been pleased with them up to this point. They are going to do the work for us."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Gordon, AL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
