"Mike was super responsive and very helpful when picking out a new thermostat for our heated floor. The two electricians that came to the house to install the thermostat and a new chandelier were prompt, courteous, and great to work with. We will definitely be recommending Payne Electric to others and look forward to working with them again."

"Roy and his crew installed a media wall for us. It was much more a construction project than electric, but they did both beautifully and managed it very professionally, cleaning up after themselves and doing an extremely precise job. Cost was reasonable compared to other quotes. They are busy, so be prepared to wait a little on scheduling and communication. We plan to hire again!"

"I had Blackout Electric LLC rewire the majority of my house. He replaced the knob and tube wires; installed 15 light fixtures, hardwired 6 detectors and installed new outlets throughout the house. His work was exceptional, as well as his advice and work ethic. Haendley worked hard to make sure that everything was done right and to my satisfaction. I highly recommend Blackout Electric LLC to everyone who needs electrical work done. "

FAQs for electrical switches, outlets & fixtures install or repair projects in Gorham, ME

To select and hire an electrician for your light switch installation, start by evaluating candidates as you would for any skilled position. Ask detailed questions, request a written quote, and verify their licensing credentials. This careful screening prevents unexpected fees and ensures every aspect of the installation, including any drywall repairs, complies with code.

A light switch can malfunction due to compromised wiring or overheating conditions. Faulty connections and excess heat diminish the switch’s performance. If you hear crackling, popping, or hissing sounds when toggling the switch, this indicates active electrical faults that pose a safety hazard and demand immediate professional inspection. Prompt attention prevents further damage and ensures reliable operation.

Installing a light switch takes 30 minutes or less, on average. The installation time depends on the switch type, with dimmer switches requiring additional time compared to standard on-off switches. While the hardware replacement might be completed in 15 minutes, it's essential to adhere to safety protocols, like turning off the circuit breaker and verifying there's no power, for a safe and code-compliant installation.
