"Rob and his crew did a great job in not only tearing up an old sidewalk and laying down a beautiful new one, but in making sure it was done in time for an event we were having. We would not hesitate to recommend them for anything you need done around your home or business."

"I hired Design and Build Masonry LLC to build a gravel foundation with a lumber perimeter and to construct my shed—and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, they were reliable, punctual, and incredibly professional. They answered all my questions thoroughly and provided everything I requested, including their Certificate of Insurance (COI), without hesitation. Communication was smooth, and they made sure I felt confident every step of the way. They showed up on time, stayed on schedule, and delivered exactly what they promised. I’m very happy with their service and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for dependable, skilled contractors. Thanks again!"

"Very courteous, professional and prompt. After our new masonry retaining wall was installed, we hired this company again in September to lay sod, where heavy equipment had been used to access and remove our old retaining wall materials and shrubbery in our neighbor's backyard."

"<p>Andi and his crew have provided great service over the years. I met Andi in 2008 and he was one of many contractors who bid on my job. Andi was and is the right guy for any job. He provided a well thought out plan and time frame. Our first job was two retaining walls that hold back a large hill, which leads to my pool. The job was difficult and a Challenge with the elements (rain etc). Andi's crew showed up on time everyday and worked very long days. He did exactly what we wanted and the walls came out perfect. The walls travel over 90 feet each and have a height of about five feet. That doesn't count the below grade stone and cement. He completed the job and was extremely careful to ensure that there was proper drainage and the stone work was performed by a craftsman.</p> <p> The next project we had were walkways and front steps. Once again, Andi and his crew were always on time and the work was done to perfection. Our neighbors were over everyday and always asking were did we find him</p> <p>The third job Andi did was our entire pool deck with large techno block pavers. first Andi built a large retaining wall to hold the pool deck. Once again a perfect job Andi then built the pool deck t perfection. Our family could not be happier with the work performed, and a important note is that Andi always made sure we were happy as he went along. Andi never came back for more money, he stuck to his quote and we consider Andi a friend and a wonderful craftsman.</p> <p>I highly recommend Andi and his crew for any masonry work</p> <p>Bob Vignola</p> <p>Cheshire Ct</p>"

"<p>Giglio has done lawn service, snow removal, junk hauls and graveled the driveway-and in emergency situations he has done roof raking at my home.  If something is an emergency or needs to be done timely, they will assure that the job is done and done well!  Prices are extremely reasonable and I haven't had a complaint!  </p> <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Harwinton, CT

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
