"Communication with Alex was extremely pleasant and not pushy at all like a lot of people, very helpful in helping me acquire the materials I need and they grabbed the ones I couldn’t get. Derek did the remodel by himself and did an excellent job, would absolutely have him come back for more work if needed. I absolutely recommend Cransten to anybody looking for work to be done on a budget."

"I worked with Prime Time Custom Homes for a kitchen remodel and had an excellent experience. Everyone that worked on my home was professional, personable, experienced, communicative, and prompt. My home was built in the 70s, and I wanted to go with a modernized 70s-style vibe - we installed a butter yellow pantry wall, milk glass pendants (Amazon), a stained glass window feature (Etsy, Cali Glasshaus), and pops of walnut wood tones. They worked with me throughout the project to bring the concept to life. I used to refer to my kitchen as "my little cave", but now it is an an open, well-lit, functional and beautiful space! Finishing work like shiplap/wall paint will be completed soon; uploaded pics of the nearly completed project. Very pleased with the experience I've had! Highly recommend!"

"We are pleased to recommend Triangle Reconstruction with our highest praise. It seems too simple to say that they do what they said they’d do, but that’s exactly what happened. Our home is around 50 years old. Ours was a large job - around a month and $30,000. We had Triangle Reconstruction come in after another moisture company provided mold remediation and a humidifier. I wish we’d contacted TR to start with. We provided TR with a structural engineering report. They created a plan to exactly meet all of engineer’s concerns. TR used temporary supports and replaced seal plates, girders, and joists for over half of our home. In addition, they poured footers and built new columns. They also added a few additional girders to firm up our floors. They removed and replaced our insulation. They sealed our porch and crawl space, replaced our vapor barrier, and installed a moisture meter. They wrapped our electrical cords and hung them. The people at TR are remarkable. A+++++"

"Chris Sampson is a highly professional contractor, who has always been attentive to our needs and willing to answer all sorts of our questions. What we like so much about working with Chris is his knowledge and creativity when confronted with unexpected obstacles. We have used Custom multiple times for simple projects (installing attic stairs), creative projects (custom wooden fireplace surround), remodeling (guest bathroom) and new construction (deck and screen porch). His crew arrives promptly, cleans up at the end of the day and is professional and courteous. We are 100 % satisfied with all completed projects by Custom and will definitely use them again."

"Ultimately, due to building costs versus buying costs, we bought an existing home instead of building. We were very impressed with Jordan, however, and we would immediately select him to build a home for us in the future. We fervently wish we could have hired him. <br />"

"The guys were friendly and professional! They carried old large wood furniture from the 3rd floor, lots of stairs, and onto their truck! They were fast and careful not to scratch my walls. Work was done within 30 minutes. Price was reasonable. I would definitely hire them again."

"Sorry in advance for a lengthy review, but it was a large job that involved a lot of elements. We contacted Miller Building & Remodeling to submit a bid on replacing a door/window unit leading onto our deck that had become water damaged and was showing rot on the frame. They were one of 3 contractors we had out to examine and bid the job - but they were the only one who spotted the source of what caused the damage in the first place. After spending just a few minutes with David Miller, his knowledge and experience became evident and far surpassed that of the other 2 contractors. David warned us that the damage may be worse once they removed the door unit and could see the full extent of what was happening, and that they may have to revise the estimate based on that. <br /> We had a small upper deck that was over the door unit that had been improperly flashed and was causing water to leak down into the walls. When they removed the unit the damage was far worse than we imagined. Alan Miller, who supervised the repairs, assured us that they could not only fix the problem, but also make sure it didn't happen again. <br /> They had to tear out a large section of the wall surrounding the door unit and replace the studs, joists and drywall. They also made sure the water damage hadn't reached into the finished basement below. Amazingly, even though we had a very large hole in the side of house during the process, they had sealed the interior of the room with plastic sheeting from floor to ceiling protecting it from dust and debris so that our kitchen area remained unaffected by the process. <br /> Once they finished the exterior repair, they moved inside to replace the trim and repaint the wall and ceiling. The crown moulding we had in the room was no longer available so they had to recreate it, and they did so with fantastic results. Afterwards, we discussed the options to prevent the damage from happening again with Alan. We decided to have them remove the small upper deck that hadn't been flashed properly. In addition, the deck had a double door that led onto it from our master bedroom that we had them replace with a picture window. <br /> We cannot say enough about how pleased we are with the results and the quality of the work that was done. Every member of their crew was professional, polite and courteous. They took great pains to work cleanly and with as little disruption to us as possible. As we both work from our home, that was greatly appreciated. The cost was very reasonable and overall a great value. <br />  When I complemented Alan on his crew and the work they had done he said, "We try to treat every job like we're working on our own home", and I can tell you that's not empty talk - they live up to it. From our standpoint, the 3 words that sum up Miller Building are: Quality, integrity and professionalism. If you need work done, these are the guys to hire. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in High Point, NC

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
