"My original landscapers abandoned the project about a third of the way through, and took off with a lot the money I had saved for the project. I found XPERT Landscaping through Angi’s list, and George worked with me to identify what still had to be done, and worked to ensure what was left to be done still worked for my budget. They did a wonderful job installing hard scape and rock, fixing issues left from the previous landscapers, and getting sod and plants installed and hooked up to our irrigation system. George remains available when I need him for questions or troubleshooting should anything come up. They returned to adjust sprinklers, check on the grass, and replace any sod that had struggled to take root. They’re trustworthy and great communicators. I would recommend XPERT to anyone trying to spin up a landscape project!"

"This project was done beautifully with such dedicated and skilled professionals. We even added along the way and they had no problem accommodating. Ramon was a great project Forman and Hugo designed a beautiful retaining wall. I loved the sod, plants, mulch and added concrete laid. Also Paul designed a concrete dog barrier, to keep the dogs from digging under the fence to see neighbors dog. I highly recommend this Promisedland Nursery"

"They came and did what was asked adding more sod, paper for the gravel and dg and upgraded dividers. They had to come back 3 times with more bark. The final phase was too quick and getting his money was his main goal. It looks nice but not enough gravel was put down and it shows through to the paper in some areas and the dg was not rolled out enough. He offered nice suggestions and that I liked. I am still waiting for the final invoice he doesnâ  t seem to want to provide me with since the price went up from the estimate price we went off of. I am still waiting for them to come back and adjust the sprinklers that are running off the grass...over two weeks now. Overall ... a pretty good job."

"

Professional manner good response.  Called for second application did not have to call them. It did help my lawn.  Did not go for the continuous service to the lawn as it wasn't in my budget as this time.

"From quote to finish, Abel and his employees were wonderful. Quote was reasonable for the amount of trees that needed trimming. The guys who did the actual work were professional, thorough, and did a great job. Everything was cleaned up before they left. I would definitely recommend this company."

"George emailed me two days beforehand to setup a time. I give him a two hour window that worked for him. He came promptly at 8:30 am, Monday morning, 11/28/16, and left at 12:30 pm. He came inside with his toolbox and started right away on assembling my two small tables. They have been sitting in a box for over one year. George also installed some 3 doorknob sets but needed to make adjustments with the door frames so two doors could close properly. He also installed much needed rack on my bedroom door to hang all my dog leashes and harnesses. The window covering hardware in the Master bedroom was changed out also. He took measurements when needed. He was accurate and did not make unnecessary or incorrectly placed holes in the plaster walls for installation. George does excellent work and is efficient. He is professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would definitely hire him for future services."

FAQs for sod installation projects in Homeland, CA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
