"We liked Armstrong because they were initially responsive and interested in doing "a new kind of work" for their company.  They were small, personable and seemed to really want to make us happy.  But in the end they got in over their heads and didn't seem to know how to actually carry out this type of custom interior work.  Luckily we also agreed to use Acclaimed Kitchens to sub out the majority of the job.  It's tough to know exactly who was with whom when people came and went, but i believe the demo, and coordination was all done by Armstrong. Our contracts and payments all went through Armstrong (we did find out later that Acclaimed had issues with payment vs scope on their part).  Armstrong found us a great stair guy to put in the new steps, had a good plumber for basic rerouting and again, used Acclaimed which saved the job for us (see separate review). Sarah was good with us and handled most of the conversations. regarding progress, details and timing.  Their people seemed to be respectful, if inexperienced.  Lots of demo dirt/dust and debris worked its way into the rest of the home; the stairs were designed and cut by the stair guy, but installed (improperly) by Armstrong initially.  Acclaimed actually fixed that issue even though it didn't appear to be in their scope.  One Armstrong crew decided to kill some time by painting one day and painted sloppily around the windows causing us to have to change them out because it was so bad and slopped over the wood trim that we wanted to keep. They dropped and broke our radiator on the back porch which also broke the stoop.  The replacement radiator (at their cost) was not the same style or quality of the original one.  The job took from May 2012 till March 2013 to "partly complete" the kitchen.  Armstrong essentially just stopped showing up to finish the last of the trim work, final painting and installation of the missing parts of our gas stove top (that they lost) somewhere around Thanksgiving 2012.  We should have stopped there I suppose, but we offered to pay them the remainder of the retention money plus additional cost of windows if they replaced the windows (that were not in original scope).  That went reasonably well and by mid summer 2013 we had a beautiful kitchen finally completed."

"KLA provided an estimate with a clear work scope, including risks that would be to our account. They scheduled and completed work on time. Left the home clean. There were issues with 2 light kits. The mfgr shipped new ones the next day and KLA came back the next morning and completed the ob at the quoted price. We used them in the past. We will use them again."

"Sam worked with the homeowner's association and got approval for proposed work.  He gave me a good quote with caveat that if water damage extensive, cost would be higher.  The work began exactly on time. When workers discovered decades-old termite, carpenter ant and water damage to outside wall, Sam offered options on how to solve problem according to costs.  The workers were polite and trustworthy.  I had no problem leaving them at home alone so I could do work.  A three-day project became a two-week problem.  Handyman for Hire worked every day (except Thanksgiving) until the work was done to my satisfaction.  I have to repair the upstairs to my duplex in the spring.  I will have Handyman for Hire do the work. They are dependable and worth every penny. <br />"

"Very pleased. First of all they were the only company that would take on such a hard, large job late in the fall. Everything they said they would do, they did and did it well. They kept in constant contact with us of when they'd get there and what was being done while doing the job. They also cleaned up after the job. Everything went very smooth in spite of the weather conditions. Bill Hanik was easy to work with and was very helpful."

"A Dodge Neon can take you from Point A to Point B.  A Rolls Royce can also take you from Point A to Point B.  These new railings are definitely the Rolls Royce of porch railings.  The old railings were 11 years old & had been painted two years beforehand.  But they looked awful, especially for being painted in 2013.  Something told me that this would be a frequent job as they were probably made of some cheap pine wood or composite wood & installed by a builder or sub-contractor who did a dubious job. <br /> So to replace them - what to do.  Find them in similar wood that would pass muster with a condo board?  Or use this company, who, made a presentation to the association years ago & had obtained blanket approval for the entire sub-division.  Buying new wood might only solve the re-painting problem temporarily, and the cycle would begin again.  I decided to bit-the-bullet & use these guys. <br /> I had an idea of the cost as a neighbor had them installed a few years ago.  So after the 2-hour presentation, I kinda knew what the cost would be. I got the "Angie's List" subscriber discount, saving about $200.  Having just sold another house with a few dollars in my pocket, I opted to pull the trigger.  The salesman told me the installation would occur in 8 - 10 weeks, which was accurate. <br /> Their office called a few days prior to the day they set.  Since I didn't have to be on-hand, the date didn't matter.  I also didn't have to clear the porch, which made things easy.  The installer arrived on-time & went about his work, my presence notwithstanding.  I'm told that an assistant joined him later in the day as I had no need to stay there.  When I returned, the job was complete & looked just fine.  The installer left a bill for the final 2/3 I owed them (I paid 1/3 to the salesman).  I have no doubt these will never require any maintenance & will outlast me. I just think it's somewhat pricey, relative to other enhancements I made to the house. But it was my choice & I pretty much knew the cost.  I'm very satisfied with the work & final result. <br />"

"Bob was very punctual and his communication before and during the job was very good.  <br /> I should have set a completion date so that I was sure of the days they would be there all day .vs part of the day or not at all. A couple of the days I was told they would be there but they weren't able to accomplish that extending the project into the next week. <br /> Overall they did a good job. There were several detail things/short cuts that were missed and discovered when the painter arrived. Not the end of the world but I would have done it a bit differently next time.  They were good about doing as we asked as the project progressed. If you are very detail oriented I would get EVERYTHING in writing before the job. Not just the basics. <br /> They did an great job of keeping the mess to a minimum during the work and and always cleaned up after every day of work. I felt comfortable about them in the house during the work and would recommend them with a word of caution realtive to the details  <br /> and specifics. <br /> Everything looks good, now that we are complete. <br />"

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Indiana, PA

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
