"We hired Tina and Marc over the summer to completely remodel our outdated kitchen. The results are truly amazing and we are so pleased with our new kitchen. Both Tina and Marc were very accommodating and went above and beyond the call of duty. We would definitely recommend them and would work with them in the future."

Customers say: Quick response

"Robert took our half bathroom and converted it into a full bathroom. This was a complete bathroom gut, reframing to enlarge the bathroom in order to fit a custom tile shower, new floor and wall tile, new plumbing and electrical, and redo ceiling area and a small entry way next to the bathroom. In the end, the bathroom looks like a million bucks and you d never know it was a remodel. From the outside all was meticulously re-installed/replaced/ or made to meld into the existing work you d never know work was done. Robert takes great care in the work he does and ensures we are happy along every step of the way. On top of reasonable pricing, he was dependable. He was here when he said he would be, didn t leave in between start to finish, and met our strict deadline as he said he would. Highly recommend him and will certainly use him again in the future. Top notch!"

Small jobs welcome

"I was very pleased and satisfied with the work that Loja Renovation provided. They replaced and installed a medicine cabinet by removing old tiles and replaced with new tiles to accommodate the new one. Patched a wall where a bathroom cabinet was removed. And replaced a tub spout with a new one. I would hire the again and recommend them to others."

"

It was devine intervention that days after the storm the president of Homes and Beyond was given the wrong address to provide an estimate for a basement remediatioon job in my Rockaway neighborhood. When he knocked on my door, we struck up a conversation. I showed him my basement. He was reluctant to take a downpayment from me because I had never met him before, had no references for him, and he didn't want to spook me. Nevertheless, I had a good feeling. I gave him a deposit which he said he would not cash until I had checked out a few references. I went to the homes where he was in the process of doing work, made a few calls, and liked what I heard. He did an excellent job on the basement gutting and remediation. I then hired him to do the outdoor repairs from falling trees and to do the one floor (including new base molding, sheetrock, insulation and painting) inside my house that had water damage. He is currently in the process of renovating my basement, which includes walls (framing, sheetrocking and some cement skim-coating) floor, ceiling, insulation, etc. All of his workers must be given some kind of orientation because they are all super considerate, very neat, etc. I have no complaints and would certainly recommend Homes and Beyond.

"The contractor Quincy did an amazing job on my kitchen remodel. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, & fair with pricing. I wanted an island with counter space and a more modern look. He listened and produced even better than I expected. I love my new kitchen and love to entertain because I have the space for it now. Would definitely recommend his services & plan to use him for more remodeling in the future."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Island Park, NY

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
