"The overall painting looked great when finished! Mike went through approx. 5 gallons of paint for the interior and another 1 gal on trim and doors. He left zero mess and was very mindful of proper preparation and housekeeping. There were 2 areas that I wish the drywall would have been repaired a little better but minor. Also, if you are in a hurry, understand Mike is a 1-man show. He was at my house for approx. 2 weeks. Which I didn't mind as I feel like more attention to detail is controlled if you are the owner and employee! I know some people like the 1-2 day jobs that is possible with 4-5 man crews."

"
My experience with The Kitchen Master was totally positive from the moment I walked into the showroom all the way to when my kitchen was finished. I had never had anything remodeled before and didn’t even know which questions to ask.

Jennifer was so helpful. She explained to me the differences between cabinets, woods and finishes. She told me the different ways the cabinets could be constructed. I left with a good deal of material to go over, showing a lot of what she told me.

The next step was to meet with Adam Hartig, the designer. His attention to detail was remarkable. We were part of the process of designing our kitchen every step of the way. He wanted us to have the kitchen that suited us best, and he stayed within the budget we were willing to spend. He gave us ideas that we never knew existed, and many were incorporated into the design. Adam was in constant contact with us the entire time.

Tom Myers was the project manager. Since our house was built in 1970 and had the original kitchen, he knew they would run into some issues. He tried to plan in advance to correct anything that needed to be done so the kitchen would be up to code by today’s standards. He advised us to upgrade our electrical before the project started, which we did. We had constant lines of communication with Tom as well.

The best part of the experience for us was Jason, who built our new kitchen. Not only is he an amazing craftsman and a very hard worker, but he was also very accommodating to us when we had questions or needed access to a part of the house that we had to get to through the kitchen.

I also want to emphasize how clean he was. Plastic sheeting went up all around the kitchen before any work was started. At the end of every day, he cleaned everything. We didn’t find drywall dust or wood dust anywhere, including in the kitchen. At the end of the project, he cleaned the entire kitchen until it was spotless.

Sometimes, the job needed more than one person, and at those times Ricardo came out to help. He had the same work ethic as Jason did.

I was very impressed with the attention to even the smallest of details that everyone we worked with had. My new kitchen is perfect in every way, and everyone who worked with us had that as the goal. We have other projects in line in the future, and there is no doubt that when these projects are done, it will be by The Kitchen Master.

"

"
We had been having problems with leaks in our sunken living room for quite a while. The leaks started last year and we had PermaSeal come out and do a "repair" which ended up not working. (The amount of water was reduced, but it still kept coming in, even after PermaSeal did a wrap seal of our foundation.) Frustrated, especially after PermaSeal did not guarantee their last job and wanted to charge us 1000s of dollars for a redo, we consulted with our neighbor across the street who had a similar problem that arose right when ours did. They said Safeguard had IDd and fixed their leak issue (same spot as ours) for a third of what PermaSeal charged, so we called Safeguard.

Phil from Safeguard came out very promptly (actually early! He asked permission to come a full 2 hours early if it was convenient for me, and I said yes). He looked at the area where we suspected the leak occurred and commented that PermaSeal (his former employer!) had done a poor job. He also remarked that the leak might not even be a foundation leak, but rather an above-grade leak like a mortar problem or chimney problem that was then dripping down behind the drywall. He conducted a series of tests using water from our hose to see where water might seep in depending on where the water was pointed. He did a "flood" test of the ground near the foundation---no leak. Then he pointed to some spots where there was missing caulk on our chimney seams, and said that the water could be getting in there instead. He had me go inside and look inside the fireplace while he trained the hose on these side seams, and BINGO! That's where the water was getting in. He found the exact leak location when PermaSeal could not (they just "guessed") Phil then said, "Well, we don't fix that since it's above-grade, so I recommend you contact a siding or chimney company to make those repairs. I'm not going to sell you something that won't fix the real problem just to make my commission."

Phil spent nearly 2 hours identifying the true source of our water problem, even when it would not benefit him or his company. Very honest and decent guy, and we WILL use this company when we do have a foundation problem. Great!

"

"Les Glover does and did everything. He replaced the bathroom medicine cabinet and sink with cabinet. He installed a new steel front door with all wood trim. Les replaced and repaired the siding on the house and garage. He repaired he soffit around the house. Les also painted the entire house and garage once all wood and siding was replaced or repaired. Les took care of many small details on his own, not needing to be told what to do. If something was not to his liking, he worked on it until it was. Les is very conscientious and is extremely reliable, not to mention that he is a very pleasant person to deal with. Even neighbors commented on his work ethic and abilities. The house looks brand new is now for sale."

"What can I say about Steve and Around the Home except ?WOW?: Wonderful, Outstanding, Workaholic.
When we started to interview contractors for a major remodel of our basement, Steve was the only contractor out of the 4 we interviewed that provided additional advice and alternatives. Those alternatives made for a much improved final product. Steve is also one those rare construction types that actually listens to the customer, mulls over options and alternatives, then describes back to you his interpretation of the work so everyone is assured on ?being on the same page?. Steve explains why or why not something can be done. He actually educates the consumer so informed decisions can be made and future projects will run much smoother.
There was a substantial amount of work required for our basement renovation/remodel. Steve ran new electrical to add outlets and light switches, moved water pipes, built walls & closets, laid flooring, stomped ceiling, and installed a new bathroom with vanity, shower, & toilet.
Steve is also a stickler for quality ? whether that be in his own labor or the work of others. He found 2 instances where the original builders had cut corners which caused the residence to be unsafe. Again, Steve pointed this out, explained why it was wrong, what the risks were to leaving it as-is, and gave us a choice of whether to correct it now, later, or leave it.
Be forewarned, if you are obsessive about promptness and timely appointments, you may find fault with Steve. If you have a 5:30 appointment, prepare that Steve may not show up until 6:00. That?s because he is providing the same quality service to another customer as he will provide to you. Steve very willingly and without concern of time will stay until all your questions are answered, you are satisfied, and he knows you understand and are comfortable with decisions and work quality. If that means explaining something 2 or 3 times, Steve does it without hesitation. Sometimes, that concern for customer satisfaction runs him late to appointments. Personally, I?d rather have a caring contractor than a punctual one.
The quality of Steve?s work is near perfection. He takes enormous pride in his work and it shows. Unlike other contractors who had to hire out a lot of the specialty work (plumbing & electrical for example), Steve can do it all (except laying carpet; he did an excellent job laying laminate flooring). This skill means a generally lower per hour charge (less overhead).
I highly recommend Steve and Around the Home for any major renovation work. He did a tremendous job on our basement facelift."
