"So I live in a older house (1947) so the plumbing is older too. Anytime I used my sink dishwasher or laundry the water would all but flood my basement making it almost unusable. I called and talked to Seth he was able to get to my home the next day and diagnose the problem my pipes in the concrete were old and clogged beyond repair well he managed to completely redo all of my plumbing brand new and have it up and running in a matter of a few hours! I now have a dry usable basement. He gave me a very decent price as well! Now hopefully I don't need another plumber anytime soon but if I do I'm calling seth at SWB!"

Customers say: Quick response

"They did a great job on multiple area project that included excavation, grading, drainage and septic tank installation. Rick, Brad and Allen were all professional, friendly and real pleasure to work with. Rick was able to perform very precise operations with the excavator and ensured everything was cleaned up and looking good before they left. Would recommend them to anyone in their service area and would consider them for any projects of my own in the future."

"Found onto Evergreen on Google - Caleb answered and we diagnosed the problem over the phone. Dan was here installing a new holding tank three days later. Dan was awesome and super knowledgeable - we chatted away at all sorts of home maintenance topics. Cost was what I was quoted over the phone. Not stressing next time I have a plumbing/water quality/ heat pump problem."

"This was a wonderful company to work with.  New Leaf Construction performed repair to the exterior of our art gallery building.  The damage was caused by significant rot / water issues.  We have very high expectations and we are quite meticulous in the upkeep of our properties.  New Leaf far exceeded customer service expectations and by far was the most responsive and courteous company that we have worked with in Maine.  The crew was responsible and respectful.  The contract process was quite clear and detailed.  The billing procedures and follow up was superb.  The work was completed to perfection."

"We called Jack Stanley when the sewer in our recently purchased, old house started backing up in the basement. Jack personally <br /> came to our home on the afternoon of the same day called. He snaked thedrain and did a full assessment, explaining the ancient crumbling pipe would ultimatelyneed to be replaced. Our options for thejob were reviewed and quoted on the spotat 3000. It was a big job, traveling hundreds of feet to the closest town line. <br /> We needed to give this unexpected project its due diligence so we called the townengineer who came, advised and when asked gave us the name of another sewercompany.  They also came out promptly and looked the job over; their written estimate was 7500.00. Admittedly, the job offered by the second company was much more involved, but not necessary to fix the problem, and in my over stretched new homeowner's budget there was no question. <br /> We called Stanley who wrote up a contract and was on the job three days later bright and early, and finished by the afternoon. Joining with the city line proved a little easier than Stanley originally thought, he creditedus 450.00 off the original written contract of 2950.00. Honorable, knowledgeable and prompt, clearly we recommend Stanley's Septic Tank Service to all, and the sewer line is working perfectly."

"It went very well.  I made an appointment over the phone, quick and easy.  I brought my car in, was greeted courteously. The technician explained what they were going to do and how much it would cost.  They brought my car right in.  Service took about 45 minutes, but the waiting area was clean and comfortable and they had a Keurig machine if I wanted fresh tea or coffee. <br /> The technician went over the service checklist at the end and told me how everything looked.  He said they do the checklist no matter what kind of service a person comes in for - checking fluids, tires, brakes.  They put on my new Maine plates as well.  It was a good auto shop experience with professional service and I will definitely use ACAR again. <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Jefferson, ME

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
