"Three small ocotillos ($195) were refused  as being greatly over-priced -- they were so very small that there was no need to pay anyone to plant them -- they could be done with a hand trowel.  Two little apricot trees ($290) were also refused as being overpriced, and with careless bark damage.   <br /> I had hoped to do a much larger project: trellises with grapes, raised garden, additional shrubs, along with some removal of dead material after the cold winter, etc.  His verbal estimates of some of the work were so high, that I found other people to do it, did it myself, or postponed it.  He was not eager to please the customer.  I was prepared to spend a substantial sum if I had found a responsive and knowledgeable provider. I was disappointed.   <br /> Mr. Korody may have been too busy to pay much attention to my project, I don't know.  He seemed very professional when he first came to talk, but didn't follow through well.  He seemed to have little knowledge of horticulture, and little feel for plant materials.  His promotional photos featured hardscaping, but we didn't get that far in my project, so I can't speak to his skills in that area. <br /> If we had had a productive working relationship, cost alone would not have deterred me from continuing with him.  I felt he was unresponsive, perhaps even dismissive, and I was concerned about his lack of interest and knowledge regarding plant materials.  If he hasn't completed the Master Gardener program, I would recommend it to him. I hesitated to do this review for some time, but I think it only fair to others to get it done.I'd like to put in a good word for the two young men who were actually doing the work.  They were hard-working, pleasant, and concerned with doing a good job."

"Hector and his crew came out to do a tile job for me around a back yard pool. They completed the job as scheduled and worked late into the evening to meet the deadline. Everything looks great. Very professional as well."

"<p>I was amazed of all the things he knows and can do. He went out of his way to even work on a weekend and long hours. He first cleaned my steps and terrace by removing all the weeds and rotten landscaping timbers. He replaced them with stone which look awesome. He laid thick weed barrier and topped it off with black mulch. It looks so professional.</p> <p>I liked his work so much that I had him help with pouring the concrete on my porch. Wish Angie's list could let me upload some pics for viewing. It is priceless. </p> <p>He also trimmed many of my trees and gave me advice on prevention of termites.</p> <br />"

"We ordered the engraving of the date of death for my father on an existing headstone. (Our mother passed away 35 years ago and the stone was ordered at that time. Our father's date of birth was already on his side of the monument.) My brother and I went in person to place the order. I asked the gentleman exactly how they did this, as I assumed the stone would not be removed and taken somewhere to be engraved. He told us that a rubbing would be made of the headstone to insure the correct font and size would be used. Then the engraver would take a portable sandblaster to the cemetery and engrave the stone there. We were told this process would take around 60-90 days. After 60 days, we called to check and see how things were coming. The gentleman we spoke to was very apologetic and  told my brother that the engraver was running pretty far behind, and that it would probably take the full 90 days. After 90 days had gone by, the headstone had still not been engraved. My brother stopped into the place of business to see when we could expect the work to be done. Coincidentally, the engraver was at the business when he stopped by, so the gentleman who had originally waited on us asked him when he was going to get it done. The engraver said that week, providing it didn't rain.  That week went by, then almost 3 more, until finally, between May 29-31, 2012, the engraving got done. I stopped by the cemetery on May 31st to see if it had been done, and although it had been, I was disappointed. The information is correct, as is the actual font. However, the size appears to be about 2/3 the size of the rest of the lettering. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the size of the font may actually be correct, but the letters and numbers are squeezed together, making them appear smaller than the rest of the lettering on the headstone. (See picture.) This type of service is very personal to the customer, and to see such poor quality etched forever in granite is heartbreaking. I almost feel like we let him down by using this company."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Kirbyville, TX

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
