"Joshua, Chuck and his staff were all amazing to work with. They were professional, always on time and worked hard to make our vision a reality. Anytime we had a question Josh would get back to us quickly. We would highly recommend Southern Acres to anyone. They have already picked up new clients in our neighborhood because of the work they did. We are extremely happy with our new back yard. Thank you Joshua."

"I had a gravel driveway installed in 2019 that was done incorrectly. The pitch was done incorrectly and no drainage was put in, so my driveway was washing away and there were lots of deep divots making the driveway nearly impassable. I also happen to live on a significant slope. Chuck and his team corrected the pitch of the driveway and put drainage in. After very heavy rains, additional work needed to be done and he came out again to make some corrections. Most contractors would never do this. Now, my driveway is not being washed out, and the rain is being diverted to a safe location away from the house thanks to a drainage path. Chuck did everything in his power to make sure I was taken care of, and is the most honest contractor I have ever worked with. I appreciated his diligence in making sure the job was done right and within my budget."

"Joshua was excellent to work with. Very responsive. And did a great job. Would give an A+++ if Angie's List supported it:) We needed a 24 foot by 50 foot area cleared for the well drilling rig and support truck, as well as extending the existing driveway up into the woods to the cleared area. There were a significant number of medium sized trees that needed to be removed as well as a number of tree trunks. The job took a few more hours than expected due to issues with part of the area not having stable soil until digging down about 5 feet or so. But Joshua worked steadily and was able to get a stable level base for the well drillers. Spent a lot of time making sure the area was well compacted. We decided that it would be better to add crushed stone to the driveway to help control erosion and to provide more traction for the well drillers. Joshua does very good work, and he made sure that it was done right. Even with the extra work that had to be done, and the spreading of the stone the price remained the same as the initial quote plus the cost of the stone. We gave Joshua a nice bonus over and above what he charged for the job. Once the well is drilled we will have him come back to pull some of the dirt that was excavated back down since we only need to leave about half the width of the cleared area to provide access to the well for repairs in the future. Highly recommend Country Boy Excavating."

"Price is significantly higher than most in the area. Initial work for sodding design and installation was excellent. Additional services such as leaf blowing and any extras is high. It all started to go down hill after that. There is basically no response to emails or calls unless you want to buy something else and even then it takes a long time to get someone to call you. If you have a problem good luck!. Billing was an issue as after we cancelled service we continued to receove a bill. Overall quality of work is great but service was an F. Really wish that wasnt the case as we really liked the work but just needed someone who was responsive and provided great service and they just dont have that at all. <br />"

"The project started earlier than planned, which was convenient for us. Grant was very professional during the pre-planning, landscape desIgn, and construction phases. The crew was prompt, courteous, and professional. We were extremely pleased with their work. We had a couple of minor issues afterwards, which were rapidly dealt with and fixed. We would definitely use them again."

"This is an excellent company and I can't say enough good things about them. In every interaction we had with them from returning our first call, to the appointment to provide an estimate, to the day they did the work, they were prompt and professional. We obtained several estimates and their price was very competitive. When they came to do the work, they called ahead and arrived early. Every member of the crew was polite, the work was done on schedule, and appears to be high quality. I unhesitatingly recommend them."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Knoxville, TN

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
